This 1964 Studebaker Champ is not a vehicle you see very often and
it is a really cool and unique truck!! This truck spent its life in
Montana so it is solid and clean. This truck is pretty rare because
it has the larger V8 engine which makes it even rarer. This truck
is pretty original but I would say it is selectively restored. The
body on this truck is clean and original and it is straight. These
Studebakers were known to have rust issues, but this one has not
succumb to this. We found no patches anywhere and the underside is
extremely clean. We did find some minor surface rust on the
tailgate. The body was repainted some time ago in a dark red shade
(this truck was originally a brighter red). The paint still looks
very nice and the original chrome and bumpers are also really nice.
This truck was undercoated when new and that is why we found no
rust issues.
The interior is in excellent condition and we were told it is all
original and we do think it is. It is so nice it is hard to believe
it is original. Even the floor mat is original with no rips. The
gauges, headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals are
all working. The heat and the horn also work. It is just a really
nice original interior.
Mechanically this truck is excellent!! We were told the engine is
the original 289 V8 and the engine code confirms the engine. It was
rebuilt but we did not receive the receipts. It starts easy and
runs and drives surprisingly very well. When it sits the brakes
grab a little but that goes away with driving. The 2 barrel Carb
was also rebuilt. It is nicely detailed under the hood. They also
added dual exhaust recently that sounds nice. The transmission is
the manual 3 on the tree and it shifts nice with a good clutch.
This car does have the OD. The rear axle is a Dana 44 with 4.27
gears and this Champ has a nice set of all season tires. This is a
very cool vehicle and whoever purchases it will be very happy.
