Nineteen fifty-one was the first year for the 4x4 only models. This example underwent a body-off restoration in 2019 and is a stunning example throughout. Dressed in a rich burgundy, the truck?s paint and trim are in overall excellent condition and the silver side trim adds a bit of style to the body. The wheels are finished in white, which contrasts nicely with the paint. The truck?s bodywork is straight and solid and the black front bumper fits tightly to the body. Mounted above it are a pair of amber foglamps. Out back is a new custom, steel cargo box with a new tailgate, a rope, an oaken cargo bed and stainless-steel hardware. On the passenger side of the box is a spare fuel jerry can while on the driver?s side is a spare tire. This truck rolls on a newer set of Deestone off-road tires, size 6.00-16 at all four corners plus the spare tire, which has its own white wheel. The tires are in very good condition while the wheels are beautiful. There is a small crack on the driver side window. This truck has a 118-inch wheelbase and a 5,300 GVWR. Under the hood is a 134 CID four-cylinder Hurricane engine breathing through new exhaust. The engine is mated to a Borg-Warner T-90 three-speed manual transmission with a Spicer/Dana 18 transfer case. This truck has a Dana 53 rear axle and a Dana 25 front axle. Inside, the black cloth and vinyl bench seat is fresh and looks inviting. There are floor mats under the driver?s feet and he slides behind a white, two-spoke steering wheel, which contrasts nicely with the rest of the interior. The dashboard is a metal one, painted burgundy. The gauges are all center-mounted and have an Art Deco flair. The temp gauge is inop along with the horn. The split windshield cranks out for additional ventilation and has dual wipers. There is an underdash heater. Except for changes to the new starter (bell-housing and flywheel), the 1951 trucks remained very similar to the 1950 models. Documentation includes a reproduction of Mechanic?s Manual, 1946-1953, a Kaiser Restoration guide, 1946 to 1964 and a 2016 Kaiser-Willy parts catalog. Competition to this Willys in 1951 included Chevrolet?s 3100 Advance Design pickup, Dodge?s B-series pickup, Ford?s F-1 pickup, GMC?s New Design pickup and International-Harvester?s L-110 pickup.
