This 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 represents the last of the first
generation. Since this final year grew to a more road-owning style,
this has the upgraded power and growl to really live up to the way
it looks. So it makes for a great power pony car that you enjoy
from an air-conditioned interior.
The gray paint has the right look for this car's attitude. It's
dark enough to look aggressive while also being a bit more
distinctive. It's a driver-ready look, and when the sunlight hits
it, all the aggressive Mach 1 pieces in black really begin to
reveal themselves against the dark gray. It starts with the NACA
duct ram air intakes with a race-style blackout hood. This darkness
continues on the large front splitter, dark grille, rear spoiler,
and the Mach 1's distinct stripe package. It feels darkly
intimidating where even the front bumper is color-matched. So the
largest bright spots are the large dual exhaust tips and the Cragar
Dragstar wheels. And that extra wide rear set really gives this an
awesome stance.
The color theme switches on the inside where you have a full black
interior, and the gray returns as an accent on the high-back bucket
seats. These later first-gen cars were built with added comfort in
mind, and this one carries on that tradition into more modern
appeal with upgrades like the cold-blowing Vintage Air air
conditioning and a 12-volt outlet to recharge you phone. And you'll
also appreciate the vintage touches, like the dual-spoke pony
steering wheel, wood-like trim, and working dash light over the
auxiliary readouts and AM radio (there are there for display.)
Under this hood is Ford's mighty 351 cubic-inch V8. It's an
upgraded displacement over the stock 302 motor, and that's just the
tip of the performance iceberg. This is further enhanced by an
Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, an aluminum intake, HEI ignition,
and a set of long tube headers that add power and rumble to the
dual exhaust. And if you really want to let this V8 roar, there's a
set of electric cutouts. Plus, with power steering, power brakes,
front discs, a three-speed automatic transmission, an updated front
end, and wide Cooper Cobra rear tires, this is a pony car that's
built to gallop with power and ease.
