Vehicle Description
1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Over the past 105 years, Chevrolet has built such a vast empire of
lovable offerings that some of them just seem to get overlooked.
Possibly the most substantial victim of that unfortunate phenomenon
is the storied Monte Carlo. Introduced in 1970, and proudly parked
in over half a million driveways during its first three years of
production, the brand's 'personal luxury coupe' was decidedly cool.
And, not as ostentatious as a Corvette or as boorish as a Camaro,
the car spent most of its life as the poster child for evolving
automotive tastes.
For consignment, an original low mileage (78,408 title verified),
example of a 1972 version of the Monte Carlo. This car has a few
faults but remains original with the exception of added fuel
injection. This 2-door hardtop example is red and beautiful, and
has plenty of nicely preserved chrome trimmings to put the icing on
the cake. An egg crate grille, single headlights, a rear bumper
that works with the rear quarter to house the taillights and there
is nothing but sweetness here on the Classic Auto Mall floor. Not
to mention the straight panels like each piece was cut like a knife
through butter, we can serve up plenty for your satisfaction.
Exterior
Cranberry Red, the factory color, is on this car and is a respray
from sometime in the past The paint has inclusions throughout along
with what appears to be lacquer cracking of the underlying original
paint showing through. However, even from a short distance these
issues are almost invisible. The panels are straight, gaps are
good, and a black vinyl top is looking good all around. The
bumpers, grille, and headlight bezels remain shiny, as does the
stainless rocker trim and wheel well highlight molding. Coke bottle
design is seen and the body lines forming the bumped out rear
quarter panels remain flawless as well as timeless. 15-inch deep
dish Chevrolet rally wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich raised white
letter radial rubber are on the corners and give a nice muscle look
to this skate.
Interior
Black vinyl abounds inside with it appearing on the door panels in
buttoned tuck and roll form along with some black highlight carpet
down low. Black cloth with a buttoned tuck and roll pattern covers
the front split bench seat with smooth black vinyl bolsters and the
rear bench mimics the front buckets in material and design, and all
is in good condition with no cracking or staining. A nice wood
applique dash houses all original round gauge's, airflow levers,
and various control buttons and knobs. A black covered top dash has
nicely preserved padding and shows no cracking. A duo of black
faced auxiliary gauges has been added under dash central and the
factory AM/FM radio is present and accounted for. Black carpet is
on the floors and remains in nice condition, as does the headliner
above.
Drivetrain
Lifting the hood, we see a correct 350ci V8 topped by a new
Edelbrock intake manifold and a Holley Sniper EFI system to feed
the finely tuned amounts of air and fossils and backed by a TH350
3-speed automatic that is indeed correct for this ride. A 12-bolt
conventional rear axle rounds out the drivetrain. The engine bay is
well detailed and looks near factory fresh with its orange/red
painted block and supple hoses.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust on the frame and dual Turbo muffler exhaust
system but all remains structurally solid. Factory undercoating is
on the floors along with splashes of road dirt and patina that can
only be acquired through age. Power disc brakes are up front and
power drum brakes are on the rear and for the comfortable ride we
note front independent coil spring suspension working with a rear 4
link coil spring system.
Drive-Ability
A smooth-running car, quick starter, and comfortable interior all
work together to make this a nice original car that offers up a
smooth ride. Braking remained bias free during our panic stop tests
and the steering was tight and responsive. All functions save for
the AC were working, but who needs AC when you're wheeling a luxury
muscle car.
An overall nice original survivor that runs great and looks nice.
Well maintained by someone who has a love for these cars but is
ready to pass this gem along to the next owner. Gracing the South
Mallway of our Hallowed Halls right here at Classic Auto Mall and
ripe for the picking.
