For Sale: 1973 Volkswagen Type 2 in Oregon City, Oregon

Vehicle Description

1973 Volkswagen Type 2 Pop Top Camper Van Bus. THIS VW DRIVES GREAT, GOOD, WELL MAINTAINED MECHANICAL CONDITION - Drive her home!

HISTORY & WHY I'M SELLING: Purchased in 1993, I am her 2nd owner. Clean Title. SEE THE VAN RUNNING IN THE VIDEO IN THE PHOTOS. She was my daily driver for 8 years and then was garage stored for the next 17 years after I moved cross-country for family. Before returning to Oregon in the Summer of 2019, the entire vehicle got a thorough bumper to bumper inspection by a VW mechanic & she had an extensive mechanical update with lots of new seals & parts. I trailered her for the ride back to OR after the upgrades. Since then have driven her only short runs every few weeks to keep her seals/motor in good shape. Buy her & drive her home to California, Florida, even the Midwest & East Coast! Gauges and lights work. I have receipts for nearly all the new parts & work I’ve had done on this van since I’ve owned it, you can read the highlights below in my list of repairs (if you want, email me from this add & I'll send you photos of the receipts for the recent mechanical work done so you can see them for yourself). My priority was always the mechanics. The body is fine, all original paint, etc. except it has a new pop top seal, tie downs & stainless steel hinges. The buyer also gets the spare parts I acquired (See them in the photos); the Complete Idiot's Guide/How To Keep Your Volkswagen Alive & VW Transporter Shop Manual; Brand new (still in the packaging, in pictures) Pop Top canvas replacement (beige), Front Pass & Driver Window air vents (roll them into the window for extra air ventilation, but keeps rain out) & replacement grill vent.

Why am I selling after 30 years together? I love this van, but it is finally time to pass the torch & let someone else love her as I have. Buy her & have the iconic road trip or restore the body & re-sell her for top dollar. The interior is set up for camping with space to stand up & camping storage under the bed.

Repair/Replacement Highlights since I’ve owned it:

-Major 2019 repairs performed by VW specialists Buggy Works Indianapolis, IN

-Complete motor rebuild in June 2001 by Rick Elverud in Oregon, then only driven a few hundred miles just before going into storage after trailered to Indiana. During the 2019 work done, the compression was tested by Buggy Works (Indianapolis) & showed “Engine Compression: 1: 130  2:135  3:125   4:130 all check out “good” prior to the other mechanical restoration done in May 2019 by Buggy Works.

Description:

-Original paint & body, see pics.

-The rear area of the van has no seats (2 front seats only) & instead has a bed platform built for a full-size mattress that is tall enough for 3 large plastic tubs/cooler to slide under. There is ample room in front of the bed to stand up while camping. Sorry, the original camper interior was taken out before I owned it. I do have the original pop-top cot canvas to go to the new owner, but chose to keep it stored instead of putting on the cot.

-I have various parts that I’ve collected/held on to that go to the new owner, please see the list & photos of the parts for yourself as I can’t list each one. I will give the complete mechanical history I’ve kept, too for reference if you want them. This VW was only worked on by VW specialists since I’ve owned it.

-Miles on this van: Odometer has always worked. I still drive it every couple weeks to keep it in good shape. My mechanic’s records over the years line up with what you see +100,000 for the only roll-over prior to my purchase in 1993 according to the only other owner & his mechanic (classic car odometer only had 5 digits) bought at just over 145,000 & as of now it is just under 190,000 original miles &with the miles driven since the major 2019 mechanical restoration is approx. 3500.
