By 1970, the horsepower race was in full swing with all automotive
manufacturing firms offering multiple cars with big block V8
performance. Chevrolet introduced the mid-size, A-body Chevelle in
1964, offering many different body styles and a plethora of engines
including three inline sixes, two small blocks and a big block 396.
The next revision came in 1968 when the Chevelle embraced more of
its muscle car lineage with a new body shape that would be slightly
updated each year with the introduction of a new 454ci V8's coming
about in 1970. Enhancements in 1971 revised the front and rear
fascias, now with half as many headlights and twice the taillights
as seen in 1970. And by 1972, Chevelles received a new twin bar
grille design and single-unit parking/side marker lights on the
front fenders, otherwise keeping the body unchanged to remain one
of the most iconic and recognizable shapes of the muscle car era.
In Super Sport trim, the 1972 models mandated any available V8, as
well as HD suspension, SS emblems on a blacked-out grille, front
fenders, & rear bumper, SS steering wheel, domed hood with hood
pins, and 15" sport wheels.
Offered here is a complete frame-off restored 1972 Chevrolet
Chevelle Super Sport Hardtop that is finished in eye catching
Cranberry Red paint with Black stripes to match its Black vinyl
interior. Built in St. Louis Missouri with a 350ci-2V V8 originally
and then swapped to a performance built 1973 date-coded 454ci Turbo
Jet V8 and matching TH400 automatic transmission from a 1973
Impala. At the back lies a 12-bolt rear end with 3.73
Posi-traction. This is a well-appointed Chevrolet with functional
air conditioning, power disc brakes, power steering, Strato-bucket
seats & center console, windshield washer, cowl induction hood with
hood pins, dual outside mirrors, all tinted glass, pushbutton AM
radio, roof rail & wheel lip moldings, and oval-tipped dual
exhaust. A standout finishing touch for this beautiful Chevelle are
chrome Coys wheels measuring 17x7" up front and 18x9.5" at the rear
with tires measuring 235/50R17 in the front and 255/55R18 in the
rear.
This Chevelle has some serious horsepower as the new 454ci Turbo
Jet that was swapped in was customized and professionally built by
Matt Johnson's Performance Speed Shop as part of the restoration.
The engine was bored .030 and now measures 468ci and features
improvements including TRW pistons, open chamber heads, Crane Cams
camshaft, double roller chain with timing cover with adjustable cam
button, Edelbrock Performer 2.0 aluminum intake, Edelbrock
carburetor rated at 800cfm, Mallory Unilite HEI distributor & coil,
billet radiator overflow tank; stainless steel fuel, brake, &
transmission cooler lines, GM hoses/tower clamps, and undercarriage
detail stickers on parts & suspension components. The undercarriage
and chassis were treated to a complete restoration so the underside
is as equally sharp as the topside!
An iconic muscle car with plenty of horsepower to back up the
superb restoration results! You would be hard-pressed to find
another Chevelle on the market with what this one already has to
offer! A professionally restored and improved Super Sport hardtop
with all the right options that is sure to turn heads on the street
and at the shows. Just be sure to tell any friends riding along to
hang on! Thank you for your interest in looking and please call
