If you want to enjoy a classic Mercedes convertible look no further. This 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL is Dark Blue with Tan interior. It comes with the hard top and Navy Blue soft top which is about 8 years old and in excellent condition. This car gets a compliment every time I drive it. The Dayton Wire Wheels really set this 380SL apart from all the others. It is a really great daily driver, never driven in the rain or snow. Always garage kept. Overall, the paint is in excellent condition with a tremendous shine as seen in the pictures. The car shows very well. There are two small spots showing some rust on the rear trunk lid and the passenger right rocker panel, shown in the pictures. Some very minor scratches and nicks in limited spots. There are a couple of cracks on the dashboard which is typical for a car of this age.
Significant investments and improvements include: 2022: Fog light and front turn signal lenses. 2021: Transmission removed to replace rear main seal, transmission pump seal and main shaft seal. New distributor, rotor, spark plugs. New valve cover gaskets. New water pump. New Pitman seal on steering box. New power steering pump main shaft seal. New transmission pan gasket and transmission filter installed. 2020: Radiator new core installed, new RF tie rod ends. 2019: New front and rear speakers. 2018: Bilstein shocks front and rear. 2017: New muffler. 2016: New tires all around. In the last year alone, over $5,000 has been invested in the car on repairs that you won’t have to worry about. The big ticket items have been taken care of! All you need to do is enjoy the drive.
The interior is in good shape but does show some age, as do the leather seats. The trunk is clean, original spare tire is present as is a partially complete original tool kit. The original Becker radio was replaced with a Kenwood. Small plug connects with smart phone to listen to music, radio and CD works great.
It holds a steady idle at 500 RPM. The car accelerates without hesitation, shifting automatically with ease through every gear. A few drips in the garage here and there, but no major leaks. There are some overall small cosmetic items that can be improved, but nothing major. The AC was converted to R134, however it is currently not working.
The mileage when purchased in 2015 was 110K, now showing 133.5K. The odometer is not the actual mileage. Title states “Odometer Discrepancy”. Previous owner explained the odometer broke and accumulated 3-5K miles before being repaired. Previous owner was retired Mercedes mechanic with a specialty Mercedes Benz shop in Cincinnati.
A great opportunity to own the last production year of the desirable 380SL which has the twin timing chain. It’s a beautiful car, a true joy to drive and it will never go out of style. I have a Weather Shield HP car cover and self-made hard top stand which are included. I’m selling to free up space in my garage. Reduced asking price from $10,900 to $10,000.. It’s priced to sell! If you have any questions or want to make an offer, I'd love to hear from you.
