Vehicle Description
Yes, this is the real deal. Right here is an authentic 1969
Chevrolet Chevelle SS L78. Billed by Chevrolet as "America's Most
popular Midsize Car", the 1969 Chevelles were only slightly
different than the previous 1968 models, mostly shown through a
different grille and taillight design. No longer a series of its
own, the SS 396 turned into a $347.60 option package for any
two-door model. The SS 396 could be had with different variations
of the same engine making different amounts of power, 325, 350, and
375 respectively. The most powerful variant that could be fit into
a Chevelle from the factory was the L78 396, the option making
375hp stock. This Chevelle is one of the very few fitted with the
L78 SS option. Part of that L78 SS396 package was the F41
heavy-duty suspension. The F41 used firm springs, a large
stabilizer bar and firm shocks up front, along with a four-link
coil spring rear configuration. The rear lower control arms were
held together by a plate welded across the sides for reinforcement.
The upper arms were even braced to handle the massive torque of the
L78. This is an extremely special car, fitted with the
numbers-matching L78 396 C.I. V8 good for 375hp and 415lb-ft of
torque. The car breathes through a factory-spec Holley 4-barrel
carburetor, letting the monstrous 396 get the air it needs to
really haul. All that power is taken to the rear wheels through a
Muncie 4-speed manual transmission paired to a 12-bolt rear axle.
Options on this menacing Chevelle include factory gauges, a working
clock, a factory AM/FM radio (that works!), power steering, brakes,
and wipers, a heater, a rear defroster, and a dual exhaust system.
It rides on a set of sweet factory-spec SS wheels on top of some
impressive Coker redline tires. The black vinyl bench seats as well
as the interior are very comfortable and look great matching the
car's stunning black paint with red pinstriping. This car is
absolutely incredible, a true sight to behold among Chevelles. It
is now waiting here, itching to be taken to win another 1st place
trophy at your next car show.
