(Please note: If you happen to be viewing this 1993 BMW 850ci on a
website other than our Garage Kept Motors site, it's possible that
you've only seen some of our many photographs of the car due to
third-party website limitations. To be sure you access all of the
more than 190 photographs, as well as a short start-up and
walk-around video, and a link to the BMW's Carfax history report,
please go to our main website: Garage Kept Motors.) Sexy fit and
finish, smooth power, stunning good looks €" Rich Ceppos, Car and
Driver, June 1991 Car and Driver's competitor, Motor Trend,
enumerated many of the 850's appealing traits: The 850i* was a
technological showcase, boasting cutting-edge luxury features such
as remote keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, a power
tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, a twelve-speaker stereo, and
windows that automatically closed at high speeds. An active
five-link rear suspension helped steer the 850i at the limit, and
an early form of electronic stability control helped keep the big
coupe on course. Under the hood, an aluminum-block, 5.0-liter V-12
used the industry's only drive-by-wire electronic throttles and was
attached to one of the world's first six-speed manual
transmissions. (*Note: the 850ci designation-the c added for
coupe-was first introduced on otherwise unchanged 1993 models.)
Offered here is a 1997 BMW 850ci in black over black. The car's
current odometer reading is 144,551 miles, fewer than 6,000 miles
per-year on average since new. The included Carfax history reveals
a salvage title first issued in 2007 following a serious accident
with damage, but no airbag deployment. That salvage title notation
continued on the car until recently. But the BMW traveled some
70,000 miles and underwent regular maintenance and routine state
inspections since the accident and comprehensive professional
repairs were completed. The black exterior paint is uniform,
glossy, unfaded, and very appealing. The color was a perfect,
timeless choice on the luxury-coupe model. The bespoke boxed
fenders in particular are highlighted by the color. Body-color
panels on the prop-up headlights and the bespoke hood through which
they rise show well. There are no dings, dents, scrapes or other
significant damage on any sheet metal or other body panel. (To best
assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view
the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.)
Black trim on the door handles, rear fascia, body-side strip, front
chin spoiler, grille inserts, quad exhaust tips, rear diffuser, and
window surrounds is similarly fresh-looking and well-maintained.
The tasteful factory badging-a BMW-logo emblem in front and
back-remains properly mounted, augmented with rear Alpina and 850ci
badges in chrome and Italy and Germany aftermarket badges. Side V12
factory badging in black is augmented with BMW M Sport and Germany
aftermarket badges. Cabin glass and all lighting lenses are clear
and free of damage, cracks, or fading. Factory 5-split-spoke,
18-inch alloy wheels in black are free of curb rash and feature
BMW-logo center caps. Pirelli® P-Zero 235/35 Z-rated performance
tires are mounted. Inside, the car's outstanding presentation, free
of significant wear or any damage, continues. Black leather seat
upholstery (in a pleasing, broad-horizontal pattern with ample
bolstering and red deviated stitching) on the front and rear seats
(separated by an ample console with rear custom audio speaker)
shows very well, as does matching leather door and dashboard trim.
Door-jamb step-over sills are unscarred, another reliable
indication of meticulous owner care. Black premium cabin carpeting
has been very well-maintained. Behind the updated black, 3-spoke,
airbag steering wheel with Alcantara trimmed rim and yellow
top-center stripe, the instrumen
