1966 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 - Long Standing British
Collector in West Michigan - Black over Red Interior - 3000cc
Inline 6 Cylinder - 4 Speed Manual - Front Power Disc Brakes - New
Exhaust and Upgraded Wire Wheels - Serviced by Flying Dog Garage in
Kalamazoo, MI Running from 1959 until 1967, the Austin-Healy 3000
is a British sports car that has come to be known as the best of
the big Healey models. With bodywork from Jensen Motors and
production alongside the other MG models, the 3000 changed from an
open sports car to a sports convertible. It is noted that the
3-litre 3000 was a highly successful car, which won its class in
many European rallies in its heyday and is still raced in classic
car competitions by enthusiasts today. Amply classified as the Mark
III, or BJ8, the 3000 sports convertible was announced in February
1964 with a power increase from 136 bhp to 150 bhp by a new higher
lift camshaft. Power-assisted braking became standard on these
models instead of previously being optional. The car's new fascia
was also updated to display the speedometer and tachometer directly
in front of the driver. Upholstery was also now available in Ambla
vinyl. The Mark III remained in production until the 1967 model
year when the 3000-moniker ceased. Offered here is an original,
black over red drop top. Hailing from a long-standing British
collector and enthusiast, this 3000 Mk III is powered by a 3000cc
inline 6-cylinder with 4-speed manual transmission and is equipped
with front power disc brakes and new exhaust. The exterior black
paint has been polished well but does show some age and is in
overall decent condition. The front bumper and general brightwork
still shine and have kept quite a bit of their initial luster. The
entire look of this sports car is set off by chrome wire wheels and
knock-off hubcaps. The red interior has been well-kept and
preserved respectably. There are multiple signs of use and age
throughout but nothing that deters from the overall aesthetic of
this vintage of automobile. Potential points of concern may include
slight discoloring on the lower drivers door panel, seam wear along
the outer drivers bucket seat, and the carpet appears to be
shifting/sagging within the rear passenger area. The banjo-styled
steering wheel has a couple of cracks and the decorative wood dahs
inserts have what appears to be some minor delamination. The black
convertible top has some fraying around the front edges but does
come complete with original cover. The engine compartment and
undercarriage have been unrestored and are completely original.
Although they may not appear to be what some would call car show
worthy, the vehicle has undergone servicing by Flying Dog Garage in
Kalamazoo, Michigan. All in all, this is a great running and
driving British sports car. If you are looking for a nimble,
powerful, and good-looking collectible, this Austin-Healey is just
right for you. Please call if interested or e-mail with specific
questions. Thank you for looking.
