Vehicle Description
1990 Acura Integra LS
The Integra, sold as an Acura in North America, and as a
Hondaelsewhere, was a small, sporty vehicle sold both as a 4-door
sedan and as a 3-door hatchback. It was Acura's smallest and least
expensive model produced, designed to offer a competitor to
vehicles like the Volkswagen Golf GTI, which was the most
well-known and popular "hot hatch" of the 1980s when the Integra
was introduced. Although a sedan was available for the first three
generations of the Integra, it was dropped when the vehicle
transitioned to its fourth generation "DC5" platform, sold as the
Acura RSX in North America. Enthusiasts refer to the Acura TSX as
the second coming of the Integra GS-R sedan. Under the Honda line
up, the Integra was near the middle, slotting above smaller cars
such as the Honda City, the Honda Civic, and the Honda Logo. The
Honda Integra was considered to be a midsize car by Japanese
standards.
The Acura Integra had an illustrious history; it dates back to 1986
until 2001. Let us sample this duration right out of the first year
of the 2nd generation, a 1990 Integra LS 2 door hatchback. Having
had only 1 owner during its life and accruing 190,246 miles while
remaining reliable and sporty the entire time. Don't let the
odometer reading fool you, this 4 banger and its 5 speed
transmission from the Suzuka, Japan assembly plant was treated to a
full rebuild at the 121,173 mile mark, so she's ready to go another
200k without problems. Our consignor also has a multitude of parts
that will be included with the purchase as well as the original
window sticker and service records dating back to new. Let's have
some fun, JDM style!
Exterior
Torino Red Pearl, a 1990 thru 1993 Integra LS only color, paint
covers all the steel and neoprene panels that make up the semi
wedge shaped Acura. Some areas of fading, scuffs, and stone chips
are noted, and an underlying issue is pushing the paint off below
the rear quarter window on the driver's side. This sporty package
combines looks with aerodynamic styling with just a trace of the
1980's square and rectangle design that was prominently used during
the era. Crystal clear 3-piece headlight assemblies lead the way up
front with a neoprene body colored bumper below, and fret not
should a mishap occur, as our consignor is including a new pair of
OEM headlights, fog lights, and a new OEM front underbelly cowl
panel. A black mid beltline molding wraps this bumper and continues
to encircle the entire body. Black trimmings are on around the
windows and the same black covers the dual sport mirrors. A sloping
hatchback with huge greenhouse glass and a rear wiper leads back to
the squared off tail end with flush mount wrap-around taillight
assemblies. Fittipaldi Exclusive wheels in 15" format are grounding
this sporty skate from the far east and are wrapped in like new
205/50R15 blackwalls. Not feeling the Fittipalidi's, our consignor
is including the original 14" steel wheels with the original wheel
covers and like new Yokohama snow tires.
Interior
Newer replacement custom black and gray leather seats covers now
wrap the heavily bolstered front buckets and 2+2 rear bench. Our
consignor is including OEM rear seat cushions to sweeten the deal.
Fronting these buckets is a black leather wrapped steering wheel
with cruise control switches on the right spoke. Up front, the
factory instrumentation is embedded in a deeply inset cluster under
the factory dashtop eyebrow. Toggles for the power sunroof, cruise
control, hazards, fog lamps, and rear defogger are just below and
situated to the outboard sides. Dash central holds the dials and
slides for the heater and AC systems, of which the AC was serviced
and changed to R134a along with a new compressor, condenser,
evaporator, and dryer. Just below is the Kenwood KDC-MP8017
AM/FM/CD stereo. The rear seat will fold down allowing access to
the trunk space and adds significant cargo area if needed. Speaking
of the cargo area, underneath the cargo floor is the spare tire,
jack and factory Acura tool kit. Black carpet covers the flooring
and up top we see a clean and tight gray vinyl headliner.
Drivetrain
A rebuilt in 2005 at 121k 1.8 liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine sits in
the original but clean engine bay. This mill produces a maximum
130hp and pushes power to a rebuilt in 2005 5-speed manual
transmission. Power is sent from this transverse mounted mill to
the tires via a 4.40 final drive.
Undercarriage
Showing typical wear for a garage kept and well maintained 190,000
plus mile car some surface rust, is present but unremarkable with
factory undercoating keeping everything intact and solid. Power
rack and pinion steering with a new steering rack helps your carve
the corners and 4-wheel power disc brakes with newer rear pads and
rotors brings things to a halt. Providing the ride is independent
Macpherson suspension on all 4 corners which have been treated to
new front control arms, front sway bar, radius arm and Koni sport
shocks front and rear, Eibach Pro-kit progressive rate springs and
Energy Suspension urethane bushings. Lest we forget the K-Mac front
and rear camber kits and adjustable ball joints. A single OEM style
exhaust is on for removal of spent fossils and is looking just
dandy.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter and smooth runner, meanwhile on our test track it
gave a firm, but comfortable ride and the interior gave generous
space for even my ample frame. Acceleration is capable and swift
without worrying about pulling out into moving traffic and shifting
was smooth. Under panic braking the car came to a bias free stop
and even after my drive I continued to play with the various
functions and doo-dads that this JDM skate has to offer. A very
nice driving car.
Purchased new by our consignor and lovingly cared for throughout
its life with meticulous oil changes, rigorous servicing then put
away for safekeeping like a favorite toy. Having enjoyed this car
immensely, our consignor is ready to pass it onto the next lucky
Acura fan. Will owner #2 be you?
