Vehicle Description
The Cadillac Deville was always a popular model and 1972 was no
exception. A modest frontal revision placed more emphasis on
horizontal grille blades. The parking lamps were moved from the
bumper to between the square bezel headlamps, which were now set
wider apart. V-shaped emblems made a return on the hood and deck
lid. New standard features included a bumper impact system,
automatic parking brake release, passenger assist straps, and flow
through the ventilation system. New DeVille signature script was
affixed to the sides of the rear roof panels. Sales reached a
record 194,811.
Our mantra here is "you never know what's going to come through the
door next". This holds true on so many levels, from flawless
antiques to modern-day muscle. Today we squeezed in all 227.4" of
Cadillac length to offer up for you with original 30,162 miles! The
A/C and all power accessories are functioning as designed.
Exterior
Clean Gold Metallic Paint covers the miles of square footage that
is this car. The paint is nice, and all chrome trimmings are shiny
and not pitted or rusted. The V-shaped front grille with the hood
atop of it emulating that V takes your eye forever until you reach
the windshield. The rear trunk lid is much the same and can accept
the contents of a small New York apartment with ease. A tight and
clean brown vinyl-covered hardtop shows no rust underneath and all
glass is clear and clean. Rear fender skirts and those large
vertical taillights melting into the bumper on the back are iconic
Cadillac design cues. Turbine outer style Cadillac wheel covers
have thin Blackwall rubber all around them and the tires are like
new.
Interior
Black is the interior color, and all surfaces show cleanly. The
driver's door panel houses all the controls for the windows and
driver's mirror, as well as a handy door-mounted wiper/washer box
within ergonomic reach. Turning our attention to the interior
seating arrangements, we note vinyl covered and buttoned buckets
with a fold-down central armrest. The seats are powered to get it
just. A large couch-like rear bench in matching cloth and this
bench also has arms on either side that harbor the essential
ashtrays and window toggles. Upfront the long wide dash is in
padded black vinyl and has some wood applique running through the
center of it. All gauges are clean and clear plastic coverings are
looking good. An AM/FM radio sits within the driver's reach. A
beautiful new carpet floods the large floor plan, and a black
headliner in great shape shows above.
Drivetrain
The big mill, which is a 472ci V8, is original to this car and sits
in this well-cared-for engine bay. A single 4-barrel carburetor
liberally feeds this engine, and it puts power rearward to a TH400
3-speed automatic transmission.
Undercarriage
All are structurally sound with the frame, suspension, and floors
showing a mixture of surface rust and black paint/undercoating.
Power disc brakes are up front and power drums for the rear. Plenty
of aged patina surfaces under here but all are strong and
solid.
Drive-Ability
There's nothing in the world that compares to being behind the
wheel of an early 70's American luxury car, it's akin to driving
your couch around town. With a twist of the key, I was off in the
living room like the bliss that is Cadillac. The car handled our
test track with ease. Good cornering, excellent braking, and
torque-laden acceleration. It was a smooth ride with a ton of power
accessories to enjoy and fondle. All of the functions worked
swimmingly including the AC, and the only thing missing from my
couch on wheels was my TV remote and my favorite comfy
slippers.
Nicely preserved and well cared for sums up this record-setting
piece of Detroit luxury. This car is ready and your pals to load up
and explore the forgotten paths of our nation.
