FOR SALE IS A LOVELY ORIGINAL 1939 Chrysler imperial. The paint,
interior, and chrome on this Imperial, one of 10,536 that Chrysler
produced that year, is said to be almost entirely original, except
for the rebuilding of its factory engine. Sold new in Oregon, this
Imperial four-door sedan is said to have spent years in Nebraska,
where it was garaged by its original owner in 1968 and remained out
of sight until its second owner acquired it. Few years ago the
second owner sold it to an older man here in Monterey, CA who
enjoyed it until he became ill and decided to sell it. This
Imperial enjoys a remarkable degree and quality of preservation,
and its odometer reading is believed to be accurate. Exterior The
paint on this Imperial is believed to be fully original. The first
owner is said to have touched up any chips. Check out the paint in
person, or watch the video to see its condition. I was told the
original owner covered his garage floor with sheets of cardboard
that inhibited rust formation underneath the car. There should be
absolutely no real rust anywhere. No evidence of rust repair
either. The glass is said to be all original. Interior The seating
and related facings in this Imperial are said to be the original
wool-based coverings, which appear to be free of soiling, tears, or
other damage. The front seat's side frame has slight wear. The car
retains its original rubber front floor mat and rear carpeting. The
original headliner appears to be undamaged and is said to have an
operating dome lamp. The painted steel dashboard presents in
unrestored condition. The interior is very original, except for new
knobs on the window winders. There is no radio, but the heater
should also be operable. Chassis The base Imperial engine in 1939
was Chrysler's 323.5-cu.in. L-head straight-eight. With an optional
compression ratio of 7.45:1, the engine received its fuel mixture
via a Stromberg AAV-Z two-barrel carburetor and was rated by the
manufacturer at 138 horsepower. The straight-eight is believed to
be original to the car, and is about 500 miles on the fully rebuilt
engine. A replacement cast-iron head has been fitted and all
bearings and seals have been replaced. The engine idle smoothly,
without smoke. It shifts smoothly through all of its three-speed
manual transmission, whose Fluid Drive replaces a conventional
flywheel, or the overdrive system. The engine bay presents as stock
and strongly clean. If interested, call 831-920-8216. We are
