Vehicle Description
1988 Lincoln Town Car
The Lincoln Town Car is a model line of full-size luxury sedans
that was marketed by the Lincoln division of the Ford Motor
Company. Deriving its name from a limousine body style, the Town
Car was available from 1981 to 2011 with the nameplate previously
serving as the flagship trim of the Lincoln Continental. Produced
across three generations for 30 model years, the Town Car served as
the flagship sedan of Ford Motor Company and was marketed directly
against the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. Within the Lincoln model
line, the Town Car was not directly replaced; the nameplate was
used from 2012 to 2019 to denote livery/limousine/hearse variants
of the Lincoln MKT. For 2017, the revived Continental replaced the
MKS, closely matching the Town Car in wheelbase and width.
Gracing our Hallowed Halls here at the Classic Auto Mall, we have
for consignment, a 1988 Lincoln Town Car in white. This luxury
classic has all the right option boxes checked, V8 power, overdrive
transmission, power accessories galore, and miles upon miles of
leather upholstery. If you've been dreaming about a classic luxury
car with low miles, 87,417 reading on the clock, then read on and
I'll bring all of your dreams to fruition.
Exterior
The 1980s square and rectangle design abounds on this car with its
Rolls Royce-esque grille, rectangle headlights, opera window C
pillar, and rocker wide stainless-steel trimming. You can be
rolling in style with just the turn of a key. All metal is bathed
in a respray of Arctic White and a soft supple Cabernet vinyl 1/2
carriage roof resides on the back of the top. The long hood
culminates with dual headlights, a large chrome bumper and some
cathedral style corner running lights/turn signals on either side
of the corners of the front quarters. Chrome Town Car script is
just behind the front wheel and the gaps on the 4 doors are well
minded. On the rear of the car are more vertical corner
lights/taillights and below the trunk lid is a reflective red bar
that holds the reverse lighting. Finned aluminum wheels are on all
4 corners and wrapped with thin white sidewall tires. A few dings
are noted throughout the body along with some paint chips, touch
up, and rust bubbling making an appearance on both lower rear
quarter panels.
Interior
A swing of the heavy but well-balanced, well-appointed doors shows
some molded vinyl in Cabernet, some faux wood grained applique,
burgundy carpeting and plenty of convenience toggles and joysticks.
Slipping inside we see some well preserved and perfectly aged
Cabernet overstuffed in a large wide bucket form. In the center are
dual folding down armrests. In back is another leather bench seat
in Cabernet leather, presenting clean, buttoned, and very nicely
preserved. All this is floating in a sea of burgundy carpeting
which shows as very clean and is protected by dark red carpeted
floor mats. The original dash is a mixture of more molded vinyl in
Cabernet, wood applique and a trio of lined up square gauges for
the cluster in front of the driver's wheel. More toggles, pulls and
another joystick along with temp sliders and the factory AM/FM
stereo unit mounted in the dash's wood applique panel in the
center. The headliner is a fuzzy broadcloth and is tight and
gray.
Drivetrain
Under the large, in charge, long, and strong hood sits a 302ci V8.
This unit is fairly clean and most other parts seen within this
engine bay are clean as well with little corrosion or surface rust.
This mill is fed by EFI, and on the back is an AOD 4-speed
automatic transmission. The rear axle is an 8.8-inch Ford and has a
conventional carrier and 3.08 gearing.
Undercarriage
The frame has only surface rust which is unremarkable. The floors
are clean and mean showing no rust or corrosion, suspension
components have only surface rust, all clean down here. Power disc
brakes are in front, and power drums for the rear. Stock style
single exhaust snakes its way to the rear of the car and is in
uncompromised condition.
Drivability
A quick starter all did very nicely on our test drive, (one of the
benefits of working at Classic Auto Mall). All smooth ride,
shifting, and acceleration. Ease of operation is a definite plus
for this big skate.
A lower mileage well cared for example of 80's square and rectangle
luxury. Good paint and interior as well as oodles and oodles of
bells and whistles make this car a great toy or even a retro luxury
daily driver. A few cosmetic issues have to be addressed to bring
this car to perfection, but this car will serve you well for many
years to come.
