1957 Plymouth Belvedere Sport Coupe
VIN: 26602808
The Belvedere name, Italian for “beautiful sight”, first appeared in the Plymouth lineup on the new hardtop body style on the Cranbrook line in the 1951 model year. In 1954 the Belvedere replaced the Cranbrook as the top trim and became a full model line. The Belvedere continued as Plymouth's full-sized car until 1965.
The 1957 Plymouth Belvedere enjoyed sales success for the Chrysler Corporation and for the Plymouth line. Plymouth's “Forward” design was so revolutionary that Chrysler used the slogan "Suddenly, it's 1960!" to promote the new car. V8s were available in the Belvedere with an optional "Fury" 301 and push button two speed and three speed automatic transmission. The 1957-58 Belvedere two-door hardtop is forever immortalized in movie lore from Christine in 1983 about a car with a protective nature towards it's young owner.
The Belvedere selling at auction is a nice, restored example. Please note the custom, professionally sewn, addition to the headliner as noted in the pictures. Acquired out of Oregon in 2016 and brought to Montana, little is known as to the history of the car. It presents with the following:
