This 1981 Jeep CJ5 has the right look and feel of a true
go-anywhere machine. So while you like the classic style and value
price, it's really all the useful features that make this one
irresistible.
The Steel Grey Metallic looks like a modern color, but it's
actually factory-correct for this Jeep. So it's quite cool to be
vintage and modern all in the first glance. What we also like is
the way this is finished. It's far from perfect, but for true Jeep
fans that makes it ideal. The color almost appears like bare metal,
and so the panels get real protection but some people will think it
has a naked ruggedness. And you certainly won't be worried about
having fun in this 4x4, which is the true point of owning a CJ. In
fact, they maximized the utility with upgrades like the Renegade
fender flares, Diamond plate side steps, diamond plate rear bumper,
tubular front bumper, a full-size spare, and a winch up front.
The interior is built for a proper outdoor Jeep lifestyle. This
includes durable vinyl on the seats and a roll bar color-matched to
the exterior. There are some classic and robust amenities like the
AM/FM/cassette radio, a carpeted rear, cup holders, and a cooler
doubling as your center console. The value piece on this CJ leaves
room in your budget for upgrading, but really, this one already
gives the right classic Jeep vibe. The grippy steering wheel, tall
shifter, and classic gauges give the right robust 4x4 feel.
Under the hood is the 151 cubic-inch four-cylinder motor. Jeep/AMC
borrowed this from GM, and it has quite a robust reputation. There
are even nice additions, like the Weber carburetor with electric
choke, and Hedman header feeding the exhaust and Flowmaster
muffler. The four-speed manual transmission with upgraded hydraulic
clutch gives you proper control, and the front disc brakes upgrade
the stopping power. Plus, the two-speed 4x4 transfer case and
robust axles ensure you have a true off-roader.
This CJ5 is the kind of classic SUV you don't really see anymore,
but what you've always been looking for. After all, you get a value
price and true usefulness. So when you need a real 4x4 that knows
how to be great for work or play, you know you want this Jeep. Call
