The Royal Knight was established in 1979 as the premium El Camino trim level. It was essentially an add on to the El Camino SS trim so all Royal Knights are in effect, SS cars. It features a hood decal displaying two dragons flanking a Knight facing head on. The fenders and tailgate have Royal Knight done in Olde English font. Two RPO codes on the build sheet and sales document indicate Z15 for the SS package and Z16 for the Royal Knight. 1983 was the last year of the Royal Knight package. The car has sport mirrors and a front air dam. The dash is fitted with a full spread of rounded gauges, including an 80-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and several other gauges to keep tabs on the engine vitals.
