For Sale: 1974 Pontiac Firebird in Lavergne, Tennessee

Vehicle Description

Oh yes, this is a true 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Super Duty, and its numbers-matching, mega-power V8 is still under the hood. In fact, the low odometer represents the full mileage on this long-term owned and highly original coupe. So while you'll be looking over every inch of this classic, you already know this red baron is muscle car royalty.

Muscle car fans already know this is something special. Pontiac only got to sneak a few big power machines out the door for two short years, and as a result, there were only about 1,000 Super Duty Firebirds built in 1974. This rarity and desirability are also why a car this well preserved is going to gain some serious attention. We're told this is coming off of 44 years under the same owner, and there were only two before him. The combination of low ownership and long-term ownership means a well-respected and highly stock vehicle. Especially when there's less than 32k miles on the odometer! The only noted exception is a repair to the driver's fender. That's impressive considering this car is approaching its half-century anniversary, and as you can see from the pictures, the finish still retains a good gloss. The impression of this red is full-on aggressive when it's combined with the Trans Am's deep chin spoiler, shaker hood, front fender air extractors, flared body kit, and a full-width spoiler. And that famous scramming hood bird makes for a terrific coordinating package as the orange flames match the Trans Am lettering on the car. This sporty look is finished off with classic Rally II wheels.

It's always nice to see a mean black interior when you have such a powerful car. Just like the exterior, this is quite well preserved to look like a low-mileage time capsule. It's highly stock, right down to the GM floor mats and full lighting package that greets you when the door opens. This was even a factory-optioned A/C car (the components are still present, but it will need servicing.) You'll be hard-pressed to find updates. And the radio is a fun situation where the original AM unit is still on display, but the real stereo is an older Pioneer AM/FM/cassette unit. This and the classic car alarm wiring remind us of the early days when it was first under its last owner...over four decades ago! But it's not just the history that has you excited. There's a tingle of performance the moment you sit in the high-back bucket seat and grab Pontiac's unique three-spoke sports steering wheel. The dials look great set in the iconic and aggressive machine-turned instrument panel. And full instrumentation is a hallmark of these premium Trans Ams, including the tach/clock combination.

The 455 cubic-inch V8 under the hood fills the engine bay with American muscle, and everyone gets drawn in by the shaker-style cover. But what will really bring the crowds is that you're looking at an original numbers-matching Super Duty 455 cubic-inch V8. These SDs were a seriously beefed-up package from Pontiac. There were other 455 motors on the books, but this one is a special competition-style package, right down to the castings. That's what makes these rare power juggernauts continually in demand today. This original motor appears correct, right down to the extra-large Rochester four-barrel carburetor that lets this mighty machine inhale deeply. And as you look at the undercarriage photos, you'll see long tube headers that really allow this mighty motor to unleash its power and fury. You'll love this package on the road, as a tip of the throttle will feel like diving into a well of bottomless torque. And keeping this under control is well in-hand thanks to the stout TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. Plus, you have power steering, power brakes, front discs, and sway bars front & rear.

The sale comes complete with Pontiac Historic Services (PHS) documentation and a reproduction window sticker. This is the ultra-rare and ultra-powerful Pontiac you've been waiting for. So when something this significant is also so well preserved, you know you need to hurry if you want this in your garage. Call today!!!
