Vehicle Description
1957 Chevrolet 210
If gassers didn't already exist, we'd surely find a good reason to
invent them. With bizarre looks, and sky-scraping wheelies, legions
of fans come out to watch them do battle at various events across
the nation. Even though the "gas" classes of the NHRA no longer
have regular "gasser" classes, the style of race car and the racing
itself were well preserved among fans and racers. As a style of car
building, the gasser style is hotter than ever due to its
simplicity and easily identified trademark style. Long before
bracket racing and Eliminator/Super Stock index racing, the gas
classes were where competitors with gasoline-powered street
machines raced. It was simple with few rules, making gasser classes
very popular with rank-and-file racers. Today, a gasser can simply
be a hot rod modified in the manner of such race cars but be
mindful of the fact that deviating from the formula in any way will
evoke serious criticism from pundits and spectators!
For consignment, a 1957 Chevrolet 210 like none other. Catering to
a very specialized crowd, (let's call it the racing crowd?), we
have a lightly shaved, consignor-stated 90% original paint, and
chrome version of the last hurrah for the Tri Five era in gasser
form. A killer V8, 4-speed transmission and a rust free body with
new glass, stainless, and rubbers make one very loud statement for
this zero mile, all fresh boulevard bruiser. Watch for the armdrop
and mash the loud pedal!
Exterior
The timeless look of this 1957 Chevrolet has been carefully
maintained with only a few subtle changes; we then move to the
chrome highlights for the upper grille headlight bezels and visors
and ultimately all the polished lip American Racing Torque Thrust
wheels on all 4 corners. The hood chrome has also been retained
from the front V badge to the rocket inserts on the rearward
diminishing twin humps; curved window shiny surround remains as
does the window trimmings. Also, the swoop spear with ribbed metal
insert on the rear quarter is on and looking perfect as all is new.
Door and fender panels are straight, rust free and mind their gaps
very well. All the exterior metal is wearing 90% of its original
Canyon Coral paint with an India Ivory roof which presents in worn
and faded condition overall. The door handles are bright and shiny
and new small round side view mirrors are now on both doors.
Bringing up the rear is another curved and bounded by shiny chrome
rear glass, and a neatly curled around trundled which is flanked by
the finned rear quarters complete with chrome and lower taillights.
Seen on the bottom is a near perfect rear bumper adding a nice
extra touch.
Interior
A swing of the door and the panels for said doors are looking top
notch on the flagstone pattern broadcloth presenting in multiple
gray hues. White vinyl inserts and black bottoms add some contrast
to the broadcloth and look as new with beautiful undulating lines.
Inside the original front seat frame which has been covered in
smooth black vinyl for the bolsters and plush tuck and roll cloth
for the inserts. This seat appears as new, because they are, with
no wear noted throughout the front split back bench, and the rear
seat has been removed in the name of weight savings. Canyon Coral
steel, sans carpeting, makes up the flooring and presents as new.
In front is a single squared off bump up dash in charcoal gray
metal jacket has some punched square aluminum banding in its
center, a radio delete panel and toggles where the original temp
sliders and knobs once used to reside. Below the dash are three
aftermarket gauges hanging in a black bezel. The factory large and
in-charge steering wheel tops the original column and looks just
fab with its "Two Ten" badged horn ring.
Drivetrain
Under the hood in the side panel free engine bay now sits a 327ci
V8 right out of 1968 which has been bored .030 over. Chevrolet 202
angle plug cylinder heads top off the orange mill and 4bbl Holley
carburetor feeds air and fuel through an Edelbrock intake manifold.
A Borg Warner T10 4-speed manual is on back and has been treated to
a new clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing. A Dana 60 rear
axle weighing in with a 4.56 ratio and Positraction puts the power
to the pavement. Everything under this hood is very nice and even
some fenderwell headers with new bolts and gaskets as well as
fender liners are included with the purchase.
Undercarriage
Fully restored, nice and clean Canyon Coral for the flooring but
this takes a turn at the end of the passenger compartment floor.
Surface rust takes over for the rear third of the undercarriage.
This holds true with the strong black painted frame as well and we
see independent coil spring suspension on the front and a leaf
spring and ladder bar system for the rear. Disc brakes have been
added to the front and drums provide the whoah factor on the rear.
The dual exhaust rains down from the engine and ties into long
straight exhaust piping with Cherrybomb mufflers and ends just
behind the transmission. A new factory fuel tank is noted and looks
just fab with new black retention straps.
Drive-Ability
A few pumps of the throttle and a twist of the key this monster
came to life. After a little bit of warm up time, our resident
racer took this beast out to our well-hidden and patented test
track and came back with a smile on his face. All functions were
working during the drive and the only disappointment was the tarmac
was too cold to lift the front end. Otherwise, he reported it was a
"gas" with neck snapping acceleration, good handling and bias free
braking thanks in part to the front disc brakes.
Our consigner states that all the hard work is done, and now you
just need to add your color to this beauty or leave it as is and
enjoy the rat rod look. Some nice mods under the hood and
underneath and we can present a unique 1957 Chevrolet 210 for your
viewing pleasure and consideration to add some adornment to your
driveway and clean up on the boulevard.
