Extensive Canepa 959 upgrades
CA Emissions Legal
The revolutionary all-wheel-drive Porsche 959 was by far the most
technologically advanced sports car of its day. Porsche built only
292 of these supercars and their timeless design, state-of-the-art
systems, and superior driving characteristics make them one of the
greatest cars of all time.
In the '90s Canepa was instrumental in the passing of the Show and
Display legislation that allowed these vehicles to be imported and
driven in the United States. Optimistic that these amazing cars
would soon be US road legal, Canepa began the extensive engineering
and development required to modify the 959 to meet EPA and
California emissions standards. It is well known that meeting
emissions standards takes a toll on performance, so Canepa's team,
along with support from Porsche, undertook a program to increase
output to 600hp. Modifications incorporated numerous upgrades
including new engine management system, Garrett AiResearch twin
turbos, ignition system, upgraded wastegates, upgraded fuel system,
upgraded alternator charge system and battery module, titanium heat
shielding, redesigned stainless exhaust, etc. (369 new components
in all).
Canepa purchased this vehicle from its original owner in 2001.
Along with the engine upgrade, this 959 has received numerous
mechanical/service upgrades and modifications. The suspension has
been upgraded to Canepa 959S specification, including the
installation of titanium coil-over springs and Bilstein 959S gas
struts updated with the latest valving technology. To finish off
the package, the factory alloy wheels have been modified to
accommodate current-technology Michelin Pilot Sport 245/45/ZR17
front and 275/40 ZR17 rear low profile, speed-rated tires, and
refinished in our Magnesium Graphite coating.
This is a rare opportunity to own one of the world's great
supercars. Combining the world-class comfort of a touring GT with
the jaw-dropping performance of a modern supercar the 959 is
ideally suited to the kind of collector that enjoys driving. 00055
has been fully mechanically and cosmetically serviced to Canepa
Difference concours standards, and is ready for show or high-speed
enjoyment.
