The top mechanicals performed by Fraser Dante Mustang (Alpharetta, GA) and Vintage Mustang (Decatur, GA). The body panels fit are excellent as well new weather stripping. The convertible top is a white power top. Interior has black bucket seated interior.
This Mustang is a rare dated late C5 December casting of correct 289cid engine that was completely rebuilt in 2015 to the highest standards with full documentation, from the complete machine shop work from block to crankshaft and new pistons.
The C4 transmission is also just rebuilt by a top sub used by Fraser Dante for many years and then road tested.
This produces about 275 reliable horsepower with heads featuring hardened valve seats, engine Cobra kit, a new, expensive dual ‘A’ code aluminized exhaust system, Stainless Steel GT disc brakes, new radial 195/75/14 narrow bank whitewalls on 1966 styled steel wheels. The driveshaft was restored with great balancing.
Good original floors painted in show red oxide to keep fresh and solid, no undercoating, no signs of any lower replacement, full inner floors red oxided before the new black carpet with insulation. The black interior features a new standard dash, has great wood Shelby steering wheel that sets this car off with the striking appearance with a new AM/FM radio and speakers.
This Mustang has the rare and excellent real original owner’s manual with VIN# and attached Maintenance card, tinted new windshield, full top mechanicals.
Engine: Here is a fantastic 289cid engine, one must look at all the many shown here (see attached pictures) along with this long write-up to appreciate the quality of the engine rebuild, now better than original. Once Fraser Dante purchased the Mustang back from the owner they sold it to, Fraser Dante decided to rebuild the whole engine, a completely finished an expensive full engine build, from the machine shop with vatted block to full bore of +.040 over. All of the new components shown herein, and top technical and documented machine work were utilized and is shown in this report.
The engine was pulled and with a complete build for the rare dated late C5 December casting date. This correct 289cid engine is just rebuilt to the highest standards first by the machine shop’s prep work with their supplied specs, note that the block is now line bored to +.40, then extra effort and money spent balancing of internals and even the crankshaft, heads, and new pistons. This is better than new from the factory as completed to higher standards.
An expensive dual ‘A’ code hand-bent 2¼” dual aluminized exhaust system with ‘H’ pipe new hangers for firm support to chassis was installed, (photos shown) by a top muffler shop.
Driving/Braking/Wheels: A brand new and expensive Borgeson variable steering unit was installed, which is much better than stock. The Mustang drives exceptionally well. Also installed are new shocks, excellent springs, and a fresh and new alignment just completed, see specs herein. The full braking system just checked, see herein. The uprated Shelby 1” sway bar with full bushings was installed for excellent handling, see herein. $2880 brand new Stainless Steel Corp front disc brakes conversion with GT master cylinder were installed for a top driving performance. Also installed are new 1966 styled steel wheels, trim rings, center caps, and lug nuts. Brand new narrow band Michelin P185/75/R14 whitewall radial tires were installed with proper alignment and road testing.
Chassis and Underchassis: A VERY high point of this 1966 Mustang convertible (and hard to find) are the very good original floors. The photos document the recently stripped floors that still showed some of the original red oxide color. The floors were then painted with Red Oxide and cleared for protection. The Mustang was not undercoated when redone to keep the look fresh and solid and prepare for shows. There are no signs of any replacement of the underchassis floors (see phots herein).
Inside Floors for the Chassis: Here again, the whole interior was taken out. The great inner original floors were cleaned, sanded, and then red-oxided for safeguarding. This Mustang is in top show condition. Finally a new black 80/20 show carpet and insulation was installed – it looks great, see pictures herein.
Body/Trim: History shows this most solid Mustang has the original body data tag shows body 76A, original color U, trim 26, date 26A, DSO shows 28, axle 6, trans 6. All the doors, hood, trunk attachments, and all side plate rubber are terrific.
All fenders and quarters are also original; hard to find such a solid car. The metal is extremely straight and all the chrome and stainless trim around the car has been redone. The Mustang has all new Mustang insignias, excellent power white top, and a good back window.
The black standard interior is in very nice condition and has brand new black safety belts. The Mustang has a brand new expensive Shelby wood and aluminum steering wheel assembly. All the dash is replaced, new dash bezel pod, the black pad excellent, and new door sills with Ford logos.
The Mustang has a new AM-FM radio with an IPod connection. All the glass is in top shape along with brand new felts and rubbers that were just installed.
The paint is very nice, done around 2012 and then kept as an occasional driven show car.
