Vehicle Description
1957 Ford Anglia
The Ford Anglia is a small family car which was designed and
manufactured by Ford UK. It is related to the Ford Prefect and the
later Ford Popular. The Anglia name was applied to various models
between 1939 and 1967. A total of 1,594,486 Anglia's were produced.
It was replaced by the Ford Escort.
For consignment, a far cry from the original car which rolled off
the Ford Brit line in 1957, which had a top speed of 57mph and
would go from 0 to 50 in 38.3 wristwatch watching seconds! It is
now fitted with a custom frame, full roll cage, and retains most of
its original outside looks, but with its huge rear tires, narrowed
rear axle and sans drivetrain it's ready to become the reality of
all of your dreams. Read on chaps!
Exterior
Looking decidedly British with its small stature single headlight
and stainless-steel mesh grille we have a truck in the form of an
Anglia panel van. It's small, it's cute and has the windows covered
over for the cargo area. Access to this area is through the center
out swinging rear doors. Gray primer has been applied to the entire
body and what little chrome adorns the body is in usable but
slightly worn condition. Out back, flanking the dual louvered rear
doors are partial taillights and down below are chrome wheelie
bars. Stuffed underneath are natural finish 15" Centerline wheels,
15" all around and are wrapped in 24x5x15's in front and in back
giant 33x12.50x15's Smoke 'em if ya got 'em and this baby could
have the potential to do so!
Interior
Red painted steel makes up the inside of this stripped down
interior. Unfinished and ready to be designed to your personal
taste, with no seating, door panels or headliner. A basic steering
column rises from the stripped red steel dash and below, covering
most of the front flooring is black carpeting. A dual reservoir
master cylinder hangs from the dash as does an adjustable
proportioning valve. Moving rearward we see exposed steel flooring
then an open view of the intricate rear suspension and axle. A full
roll cage has been installed but does have door bar swing outs to
make entrance and exit much easier.
Drivetrain
Lifting the forward hinged hood reveals the custom frame and front
suspension but little else. Extensions of the roll cage are noted
as is the steering gear. With all the custom work done here any
amount of cubic inches will fit and the only limitation is how much
engine you want sticking out of the hood. A narrowed Ford 9" rear
axle fills the space inside the body and is equipped with 5.13
gears.
Undercarriage
Very nicely done underneath with nary even a hint of road dirt,
just solid black and silver steel. A 4-inch drop axle is seen up
front along with coilovers and in the rear we note a ladder bar
setup with coil overs. Disc brakes are seen all around and the
aforementioned wheelie bars are securely tied to the rear axle.
The beginnings of a very unique build with the vast majority of the
hard work already done for you. The sky's the limit for this
Anglia...mild or wild, the choice is yours. I say ol chap, start
turning the wrenches and let's go for a spin!
