Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is proud to present this exceptional 1980 Shay
Model A Roadster. We've seen our fair share of Shay's roll into our
showroom over the years but this one is the nicest we've seen so
far. Shay's were produced from 1978-1982 by the Shay Motors
Corporation. Harry Shay arranged with Ford Motor Company to build a
limited run, modern-day reproduction of the Ford Model A Roadster,
with a rumble seat, that was to be sold through the network of Ford
Automobile Dealers and built in Battle Creek, Michigan. Only 5,000
Shay's were produced, making this quite a rare find. Dressed in
slick red paint with a white convertible top and white wall tires,
this Model A really grabs attention. The convertible top is in
great condition with a clear rear window and works as it should.
This particular Model A is the Super-Deluxe Version, featuring a
spare tire on each side just ahead of the doors as well as a whole
host of extra options. Chrome abounds with double bar bumpers,
extra large lipped headlamps, dual "ah-ooo-gah" horns, a beautiful
grill with quail radiator ornament, running board step plates,
fold-down wood-accented luggage rack, dual side mirrors, chrome
exhaust tip, and best of all... 6 wire wheels wrapped in almost new
Firestone white wall tires. The rumble seat shares the same
apholstery and carpet as the interior and can be entered using step
plates on the passenger side. Step into the interior to find nice
red pleated aphoplstery on the seats and doors with red carpet to
match. The previous owner replaced the original gauges with two
working Autometer gauges, one for speedometer, and the other a
quad-gauge with temp, fuel, oil, and voltage all on one. The last
owner also installed an Audiovox AM/FM/Cassette stereo under the
dash on the right side to provide some tunes to cruise to. The car
does have 2 windshield wipers but they are inoperative. The front
windshield does flip out at the bottom to provide a little extra
breeze while driving. Other features include a Grant wood steering
wheel and etched wind wings. Under the hood is a 2.3 liter 4
cylinder Ford Pinto engine mated to an automatic 3-speed Ford
transmission. This drivetrain is reliable, easy to work on, and
makes this Model A a lot more fun to drive than a real one. This
Shay also has rack and pinion steering and a disc/drum brake combo
that add to a more modern driving experience. Suspension is also
improved over an original Model A, featuring two coil springs on
the front, two sets of longitudinal multi-leaf springs in the rear,
and 4 shock absorbers. This Shay Model A is the perfect combination
of vintage charm and modern drivability - perfect for car shows,
parades, trips to the ice cream parlor, or just a pleasant drive in
the country. No matter where you're going this Shay will put a
smile on your face every time you hit the road!
