Vehicle Description
In the collector car world, stylish convertibles with incredible
power usually command big attention and serious money. Need proof?
Check out all those dual-quad Impalas and Sting Ray roadsters that
routinely pull six-figure prices simply because they exist. That
begs the question: how do you get breakneck performance that's
wrapped in a jaw-dropping shell without draining your kid's college
fund? Well, you take a serious look at a gem like this fantastic
Backdraft Racing Cobra! A modern spin on a timeless sports car,
this rad roadster mixes 427 cubic inches of brutal Roush small
block with a tough Tremec 5-speed, BMW suspension components and
jaw-dropping aesthetics. If you're in the market for a storied
classic that's destined to lead the pack, you've found your pride
and joy!
STERLING STYLE
From inception, Backdraft cars are turnkey products developed and
engineered to mimic the vintage appeal of authentic aluminum Cobras
while handily out-performing pretty much anything on the street.
The assembly of this roadster's professionally finished body began
with a steel-lined GRP molding that was hand-tweaked and gel coated
on a full-size rotisserie rack. Once that coating was complete, the
newly formed fuselage was smoothed by a seasoned fiberglass
professional, baked in an even coat of primer and inspected
top-to-bottom to ensure first-class quality. When quality control
was cleared, sublime Sterling Gray two-stage was trimmed with crisp
Silver racing stripes and garnished with handsome, track-ready
decals. And today, this super slick Cobra is a sophisticated build
that exhibits twice the style and twice the race-bred DNA of a
typical replicar boulevard cruiser.
Polished, sorted and ready to rock and roll, this Cobra is a
carefully detailed stunner that's set for miles of smiles! That
detailing begins with a sculpted and re-angled nose, which hangs
stainless-trimmed Hella headlights over mesh grilles, amber parking
lamps and polished quick lifts. A rivet-lined hood anchors a
Roush-branded scoop between locking latches, a small Shelby roundel
and polished stainless wipers. Behind those wipers, like-new glass
hangs clear wind wings and dark-tint visors between a polished roll
bar and a polished, bullet-style mirror. At the sides of the car,
shielded pipes frame finned air extractors, stylish Ford emblems
and a familiar Monza-style fuel filler. And at the back of the car,
stacked tail lamps join a chrome tag light between a locking trunk
handle, a second Shelby roundel and two more polished quick
lifts.
ROUSH POWERED
Tilt this roadster's lightweight hood and you'll find a hot Roush
Performance 427 R small block that twists a heady 550 horsepower
into 535 lb./ft. of tire-killing torque! Built from the ground up
as your ticket to major acceleration and insane speed, this stout
mill is founded on an iron block, a steel crank, a roller cam,
H-beam connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons. At the top of
the surly engine, a polished and milled air cleaner floats breeze
through an electronically choked Holley carburetor. That carb,
propped on a phenolic spacer, feeds an Edelbrock Victor Jr. 351W
intake, which is seated between lightweight aluminum heads. Those
CNC-massaged caps hide tough hydraulic roller lifters under a
polished breather and trick Roush valve covers. Fire is provided by
an MSD Blaster SS coil, which is connected to an MSD distributor
and loomed Roush plug wires. Cooling comes courtesy of a
lightweight radiator, which fronts a big electric puller fan,
polished tubes and a polished expansion tank. Ceramic-coated
headers evacuate spent gases into the aforementioned side-pipes. At
the front of the block, billet pulleys spin a polished Edelbrock
water pump next to a polished Powermaster alternator. And the
dyno-tuned engine features a roster of well-planned details,
including braided fuel lines, a deep-sump oil pan and a Powermaster
high-torque mini starter.
BACKDRAFT BUILT
Rule number one of hot rodding: an excellent drivetrain isn't worth
the metal it's built from unless it's paired with a competent
chassis. Behind this Cobra's hot powerplant, a proven Tremec
5-speed, tailored with a Quick Time bellhousing and a fresh McLeod
clutch, spins a BMW limited-slip rear end that ensures
whiplash-inducing acceleration while still allowing the car to loaf
along at highway speeds. That drivetrain, bolted to a hot-rolled
rectangular steel ladder-type chassis, sends power through the same
BMW-sourced MacPherson strut front and fully independent rear
suspension that's become a Backdraft hallmark. Those fully
adjustable bones are led by BMW-sourced rack-and-pinion steering.
Stops are provided by power-assisted discs that, thanks to the
car's featherweight construction, are virtually impervious to fade.
And there's simply nothing that looks better on a Cobra than a set
of sweet Trigo Knock-Offs!
SIMPLE IS GOOD
Between the doors, it's all purpose all the time, as
French-stitched vinyl and fresh carpet culminate in a simple yet
attractive driving environment. Front and center, Backdraft-branded
buckets pin soft pleats under 4-point Crow Enterprizes safety
harnesses. A covered and stitched dash hangs sedate AutoMeter
telemetry and a locking glovebox above a polished fire extinguisher
and slim Backdraft Racing pedals. Below that dash, an angled Cobra
shifter pivots between a polished hand brake and plush Backdraft
Racing floor mats. The driver carves curves through a classy
Moto-Lita steering wheel. And everything stays dry thanks to a
color-keyed tonneau cover.
There simply aren't that many chances to own a first class sport
car - especially at this money. With its modern chassis, proven
5-speed and exceptional Roush power, this Cobra is guaranteed to be
a blast to drive. Looking to add a little fire to your arsenal?
