& LUXURY While tightening emissions regulations, rising insurance
premiums, unleaded fuels and activist politicians conspired to
virtually strangle the American muscle car out of existence by the
early 1970s, Oldsmobile held the line with the Cutlass 442, its
sophisticated and potent mid-size performance car. The sole Cutlass
convertible in 1972 was based on the upscale Cutlass Supreme,
marking the final year of availability. The 1972 model year also
witnessed the reversion of the high-performance 442 from a unique
Oldsmobile series to optional status as before 1968. Coded as the
W-29 Appearance and Handling Package, the 442 option was available
on both the Cutlass and Cutlass Supreme series, with 350- and 455
cubic-inch V-8 engines listed for 72, plus the ultra-high
performance W30 455 mill, now rated 300 SAE Net horsepower.
Matching the 442s muscular yet classy image, performance with the
rare W30 engine remained ferocious, with Hi-Performance Cars
magazine covering the quarter-mile in 14.37 seconds at 98 mph. This
1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 442 Convertible is exceptionally
rare as just 113 produced with the legendary X-Code W30 455 CI V-8
engine. Retaining the matching numbers engine, it features a
Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission, floor console, and Hurst
Dual-Gate shifter, plus a tachometer, bucket seats, and a Rally
steering wheel. Other features and options include power brakes,
steering, windows, and the convertible top. Benefiting from a
documented restoration with a color change to handsome Viking Blue
with White stripes and White upholstery, this striking cutlass
Supreme 442 Convertible also includes an AM/FM radio and power
drivers seat. Accompanying items include a top-boot cover, a full
spare wheel/tire, an owners manual, restoration and service
receipts, ownership history, and literature, plus a binder with
breakdowns of the vehicles relevant numbers and factory codes. Call
