Vehicle Description
1966 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
Although pickups came of age after World War II, they continued to
evoke a postwar sensibility until Chevy introduced a groundbreaking
generation of trucks in 1960. Not only were these C/K pickups a
designation that is still in unofficial use equipped with the
segment's first independent front suspension, but a new drop-center
X-shaped frame reduced the height of the vehicle by up to seven
inches. The lower stance was emphasized by an attractive,
pinched-waist body marred only by a fussy front end featuring "jet
pod" eyebrows over the grille. Over time, the hoodline was lowered
and the front fascia simplified, and by the end of the model run in
1966, the pickup was an exemplar of restrained elegance.
For consignment a neatly restored C10 styleside short bed 1/2 ton
pickup. This truck is truly all right when it comes to straight
steel, lightly tinted windows, and a neat-o bed. Not to mention the
surprise under the hood (think 350 cubes of built Chevrolet power)
and your grandmother's couch for a seat inside. These trucks are
still wildly popular especially one in this condition, so if
interested or you just want to be fascinated...read on!
Exterior
For 1966 the Jet Pod eyebrows are now gone, and the hood now is
simplified yet still upstanding with turn signals, and dual intake
vents in the center. Just below is the restored to perfection
single headlight stainless and chrome egg crate grille bordered
below by a clean chrome bumper. Moving back, we note all straight
steel for the body and bed panels, along with clean slightly
widening trim spears that run stem to stern. Gaps are well minded,
chrome trimmings are nicely redone, and the roof and its pillars
have been finished in a complimenting silver gray. Inside the bed
we see more flawless black paint with a silver bowtie on the bed
bulkhead and a bed floor lined with oak and black dividers. The
rear of this truck remains true to its roots with the gray insert
with embossed CHEVROLET on the tailgate, flanking oval tail lights
and round back up lenses, as it really pulls itself off well with
the shiny chrome bumper. Deep dish 15-inch rally wheels are all
around and certainly add some curb appeal along with the blackwall
Cooper Cobra 255/70R15 rubber.
Interior
Complimentary to the exterior, we see warm gray full metal jacket
steel door panels which are dressed with tuck and roll broadcloth
panels as well as chrome cranks and actuators. For the bench, black
tuck and roll inserts are framed by smooth gray bolsters, all in
cloth. Our eyes turn to the dash where we see more warm gray just
like the doors. Clean original instruments are fronted by a
silver/gray large plastic steering wheel with a polished tilt
column and in the center of the dash is the ashtray and an
aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette stereo. Black carpeting covers the
floors and above is near perfection and up top, with more black
tuck and roll broadcloth and a gray bowtie is the headliner. A
Vintage AC unit has been installed under the dash and has control
dials as well and multiple air vents.
Drivetrain
Ok I'll reveal the surprise with the pop of the large
hood...drumroll please...a 350 cubic inch 4-bolt main Chevrolet
block complete with a Edelbrock 600cfm 4-barrel carburetor, and an
Edelbrock intake manifold stares you down. This block has been
bored .030 over, fitted with flat top pistons, and has a Lunati
.515 lift camshaft installed. With its gorgeous black block and the
chromed smatterings of bowtie valve covers, and the rounded
triangle shaped air cleaner, you will be able to look a good long
time. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission with a 2500rpm stall
converter and shift kit has been strapped to the back of the mill
and throws power back to a 3.07 geared rear axle. A huge shout out
to the polished AC compressor, billet serpentine pulley set up and
braided hoses.
Undercarriage
Well done underneath with a sturdy X frame, clean black metal floor
pans, and wood for the underside of the bed. In front we see
independent coil spring suspension, and on the rear is 3 link coil
sprung suspension. Power disc braking is on in the front and power
drums are on the rear to help slow the roll. Headers and Flowmaster
mufflers are on for the exhale and the exhaust ends with shiny tips
just under the rear bumper.
Drive-Ability
A super quick starter, and nice runner, for a pickup it loved our
test track almost as much as I loved driving it. Very comfy ride,
nice sound, good handling, and snappy acceleration. Also, a quick
stopper with those power disc/ drum brakes, but a few issues reared
their heads during our drive. The horn wouldn't beep, the radio
didn't belt out any tunes, the brake lights didn't illuminate, the
parking brake was nonfunctional and the turn signals didn't
self-cancel.
Just a beautiful job on this restoration with tasteful color, some
chrome bling added, a gorgeous bed, and a hot engine, not to
mention the couch bench seat, and we are in C10 heaven. With the
exterior shining to the nines, a fully restored interior and a
killer powerplant you'll have yourself a great creation and
showstopper.
