Vehicle Description
1957 Desoto Firedome Even underneath looks like 1957. No rust or
body work anywhere. The dual exhaust is silver from front to back.
The frame and springs have the original factory silver paint. The
gas tank has the original paint with just a few specks of surface
rust. It was a graduation present in 1957 for a nuclear engineer in
Madison. He went to work in Los Alamos so the car was stored in
Madison while he was away. There is a picture of him with the car
at the Iola car show in 1983. Then it was sold to a restaurant
owner who stored it and never drove it. My brother bought it in
1995 and drove it for a couple years. Before putting it away for
the winter he took the valve covers and intake manifold off to be
repainted. He also took off the rear chrome to have it re-plated.
None of that happened, so they are still off the car. A few small
parts like the harmonic balancer, generator, water pump, fan, and
bumper exhaust tips are missing. The interior has some tears and
stains. The engine turns free, tires are good and rolls easy.
