Vehicle Description
1990 Buick Reatta Convertible
The Buick Reatta was originally penned as a two-seat sports car for
Buick. After much contemplation and focus on the brand's buyers, it
was decided to come out with an older luxury minded buyer's car,
with front wheel drive, a 2-door coupe, comfortable interior and
soft ride. Today the Reatta stands out for its "futuristic" (of the
time) styling and driver interface. It was one of the least
expensive handmade modern cars produced at the Lansing Craft
Center, with each car including a "craftsman's log" of its
builders.
For consignment, from a passionate about Reattas consigner, this
well cared for, 43,860 mile example is all original and has been
slightly worked to get all the known Reatta bugs out, and is now
like showroom new, and with only 2,132 convertibles built in
'90...somewhat rare. This car is also equipped with the 2 options
available for this year, a CD player, and a 16, yes count 'em...
16, way driver's power seat. Lots of conveniences, a sporty look,
and a comfortable ride are just a few of it's many assets. And if
the looks and amenities aren't enough, then let me introduce you to
the laundry list of all the original paperwork, factory service
manuals, owner's manual set (complete with the pen, flashlight and
tire pressure gauge. Still salivating for more? How about this fine
example having a Buick Club of America Gold Senior award as well as
a AACA Senior Award? Read on and prepare to fall in love with this
hidden gem of GM styling.
Exterior
Bathed in its original Flame Red paint, it is holding up very
nicely and with no rust flaws or issues to note. A low mileage car
helps a bit too, and this one is just fab! Hidden halogen
headlights with rebuilt motors and gears, and a clean all working
tan canvas convertible top this aerodynamic 2-seater can be a
pleasure to drive. A gold accent pinstripe, and some 3-dimensional
moldings just below the belt line with a chrome thin topper both
race around this rounded car to create some highlight on the red.
15-inch aluminum wheels are on all 4 corners and are wrapped in
like new rubber. One of the many highlights we found in our
consignor's notes is the rebuilding of the power antenna
assembly.
Interior
Saddle leather buckets are nice and comfortable and sit in a very
clean and well-preserved interior. Plenty of conveniences surround
these seats including the actual driver's seat with 16-way
adjustable power controls. Other features are a keyless entry,
power windows, power steering, power door locks, cruise control,
tilt steering and a rear window defogger. Even an AM/FM/Cassette
and CD player is installed. The dash, center console, and door
panels are all original equipment and are all like they just left
the showroom. Speaking of the dash, it sports nifty
vacuum-fluorescent gauge displays and a blue LCD mileage readout.
Tan carpeting covers the floors, and a built-in tonneau cover
automatically covers the downed top and our consignor will include
a cockpit cover for those days when precipitation is in the
forecast but you wanna stay topless. A shout out to the trunk,
which is also well preserved, very clean and has room for 2 golf
bags.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 3.8 liter V6 which is horizontally opposed, and
is fed fossils with EFI. A 4T60 4-speed automatic transmission is
on back and this drivetrain is certainly all original. Also, in our
consignor's notes we see that the ignition module and coil packs
have been replaced, the cooling system was flushed and filled, the
AC was converted to R134A, an oil change was performed
approximately 100 miles ago and a new battery was recently
installed.
Undercarriage
All clean and a mix of factory red paint with some black paint
blown over top, however no rust, surface or otherwise. It is
equipped with grand touring suspension, which is independent coil
springs upfront, and independent with transverse leaf suspension on
back. A recent 4-wheel alignment was performed to help keep the
like new treaded tires wearing evenly. Power disc brakes are all
around and along with a new brake control relay, the system has
been flushed. The exhaust appears to be original and in good
condition.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and a smooth ride, (one would expect a sports car
ride, but not this car...all luxury ride), good handling and bias
free panic braking. All functions were working well thanks to our
consignors tedious upkeep and maintenance.
An overabundance of documentation, and swag that came with this
original car, (car dealers would promise and include anything save
for a toaster to sell cars in the early 90's!), along with a car
cover, the cockpit tonneau, a dash cover and 2 sets of Reatta floor
mats. Plenty of convenience options, and a convertible top. Lots of
reworked issues that were typical of Reattas are now rectified, and
it shows nearly as showroom quality. A fairly collectible with a 4
year run, major award wins and no rust. Comfort never looked so
sporty. Sportiness never was so comfortable, but hey! It's a
Buick.
