Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is proud to present this gorgeous 1968 Jaguar XKE
for your consideration. The chassis number 1E 17977 on this E-Type
tells us that it is one of the rare Series 1.5 cars produced during
the transition to Series 2. Dressed in slick Carmen Red paint and
newer tan vinyl top, this Jaguar is a feast for the eyes. The long
front bonnet with louvers, wrap around rear bumper, triple
windshield wipers, deep-set headlights, and wire wheels just scream
elegant European sports car. Although this car is a series 1.5, it
does seem to have all of the changes made that differentiate series
1 from series 2. The changes include the 4.2 liter straight 6
engine with ribbed cam covers, dual Zenith Stromberg carburetors,
twin cooling fans, open headlights, all synchromesh gearbox,
knock-off nut wire wheels, black rocker switches on the dash,
adjustable seat backs, and ignition moved from the dash to the
steering column area. Under the bonnet of this E-type you'll find
an era correct (not #'s matching) inline 6. From our research, it
appears that the engine likely came from a 1968 XKE 2+2. Inside the
cabin is a nicely kept biscuit interior with comfortable,
adjustable seats. Other interior amenities include 2-speed wipers,
2-speed fan, passenger grab handle, telescopic wood steering wheel,
and 160mph speedometer. The manual convertible top works as it
should and has a tan boot cover as well as a black tonneau cover
located in the trunk. Stopping power comes from 4-wheel disc
brakes. Stock Jaguar suspension provides a very comfortable ride
with good handling. The dual exhaust with chrome tips looks and
sounds great, especially when you start to put the pedal down. If
you're in the market for an E-Type, don't let this low-mileage,
rare series 1.5 pass you by!
