Vehicle Description
When was the last time you saw a steel-bodied pre-war pickup that
has fuel-injected power, an overdrive transmission, and air
conditioning? So while this 1933 Chevrolet pickup has a vintage
silhouette, it is really a very cool and modern cruiser that you
can enjoy for a drive near or far.
The modern style of this classic starts with the paint. Bright
Island Blue is a more modern color borrowed from the Ford palette
that has a nice metallic pop in the sunshine. It was one of the
final steps in a multi-year restoration that we're told was
finished in 2003. There's likely less than 5k miles on this since
completion, and so it retains a clean style that comes from only
occasional and careful use. The clearcoat finish does a good job of
showing off the straight panels and gentle fender curves of the
classic steel main body. And those fiberglass fenders give a
smoother style to the gentle arcs. Even the wood tells a story. The
white oak is said to have been salvaged from Hurricane Hugo, and it
was repurposed and polished for the running boards, tailgate,
custom tonneau, and bed floor. As a true American classic, it also
makes sure to have the right brightwork charm. This shows off the
vintage side with the chrome bumpers and headlight buckets. Other
places feature the upgraded nature with the 15-inch wheels and wide
dual exhaust tips with a tow hitch in-between.
The interior keeps the classic upright cab feeling, but now it's
filled with the best in modern luxury. The seats are updated
high-back buckets with a center armrest and proper shoulder belts.
There are some tasteful wood accents for the steering wheel, dash
insert, window surround, and the overhead console that houses the
AM/FM/CD stereo. You also have a tilt steering column, cruise
control, storage overhead console, and cold-blowing air
conditioning. The dash is dominated by Classic Instruments gauges,
and the large speedo and tach let you know there's something
upgraded under the hood, too.
The engine bay has a cleanly installed 4.3 liter Vortec V6. It just
seems extra cool to see 65+ years of evolution all together with a
pre-war Chevy upgraded to a fuel-injected powerhouse from the
Blazer/S-10 program. This was built to be a driver. That's why they
also installed the 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission with
highway-friendly overdrive, and there's also an electric fan for
better cooling. The front suspension is a well-done independent
setup featuring adjustable coilovers. Add in power brakes, front
discs, and wide Toyo tires, and this classic feels like a much more
modern machine out on the road.
