For Sale: 1953 BMW R Series in Saint Louis, Missouri
The R51/3 was BMW's first true post-war motorcycle design,
following the prewar-derived R51/2. The R51/3 is an iconic
motorbike, elegantly styled and featuring a powerful 500-cc "boxer"
twin set low in the frame. Renowned then as now for its exceptional
refinement and comfort, the R51/3 features twin plunger rear
suspension, shaft drive, and a four-speed gearbox for outstanding
long-distance ability. This lovely example features matching engine
and frame numbers, and is presented in largely original and
unrestored condition having spent many years in a private
collection. It is beautifully finished in its original livery of
black with cream pinstripes, and displays a warm and pleasing
patina. Found to run and ride well, though some additional sorting
may be needed before embarking on longer rides. A must-have for any
collection of significant motorcycles, rarely seen in such
well-preserved condition. Offers welcome and trades considered For
