Vehicle Description
It's not that often that we get to experience that "new car smell"
here in our showroom, after all, brand new cars don't exactly put
the "classic" in Streetside Classics. But every once in a while, a
late-model car comes along that's so darn impressive it's an
instant classic. This 2018 Ford Mustang "Track King" was built by
the pros at Petty's Garage specifically to steal the show at SEMA,
and it highlights "The King's" recent line of limited-edition,
late-model productions that are giving builders like Roush, Saleen,
and Hennessey a run for their money. Built from a Champion's mold,
this race-themed beauty from the mind of Richard Petty is dressed
to impress and packing a unique 2.3L EcoBoost motor fitted with a
62mm turbocharger that can register a staggering 700+ base
horsepower. And with only 1,069 miles on the clock, this exclusive
Pony is basically still in the wrapper, ready to break out.
One of the best reasons to own a special edition car like this is
that it instantly sticks out from the crowd. It starts with the
unique BASF R-M "Track King" Ghost Silver finish contrasted with
Petty Blue (what else?) and light silver accents throughout the
body. The custom build used the dynamic curves of the modern 6th
generation Mustang as the foundation of the build, and coupled that
already dramatic styling with the addition of a hand-crafted
wide-body kit and Arrow Composites' carbon fiber side skirts, front
splitter, and Petty's Garage rear spoiler to match. Cervini's Auto
Designs provided the custom Petty's Garage grille inserts and rear
fascia, and Petty's Garage acid-etched rear windows, a custom
windshield banner, and Petty Blue-painted Brembo brake calipers
were added for further pop. The result is a Mustang with unmatched
curb appeal, and you can see how thoughtful the designers were over
every single inch of this amazing car. Ever since it dropped jaws
at SEMA, this beauty has only been shown and barely driven, so
everything is factory fresh with a miniscule 1,069 actual miles on
the clock. Yes, it's that fresh!
Inside is a loaded GT premium Mustang interior that remains so new
and unblemished that it smells like the factory floor. Katzkin
black leather with suede inserts looks and feels like it belongs in
an exotic supercar with a six-figure price tag, and the Petty Blue
stitching reminds everyone that this is "The King's" domain. Mr.
Petty's trademark continues on quite literally with his genuine
signature on the dash, the Petty's Garage logo in the headrests,
floor mats, and illuminated door sills, and the custom "T/K"
engraved plaque above the glove compartment. Beyond all the true
collector's items, this Mustang is also desirable because it has
all the modern amenities you could want - power
windows/locks/mirrors/seats, cruise control, keyless entry &
ignition, electric rear defogger, dual zone automatic climate
control system, and heated & cooled leather seats just to name a
few. The touchscreen infotainment system means you not only get a
terrific sounding Shaker AM/FM/Satellite/AUX stereo, but it also
has plenty of useful features like navigation, Bluetooth, and a
back-up camera. There's even voice-activated navigation, although
be sure to speak up over the roar of the engine. Plus, the power
steering can be adjusted between touring and performance driving
right from the cockpit, and the contoured leather seats mean you
can hit the corners as aggressively as you please. A modern machine
also means modern safety with dual front airbags, side airbags, and
anti-lock brakes, so go ahead and stand on it with the confidence
of Ford's top-of-the-line safety standards. Out back the seats were
deleted to reduce weight, and the trunk is very spacious, so this
Mustang is road trip ready.
Ford's EcoBoost 4-cylinder motor has been a revelation for the
brand, and it provides great performance and unbelievable
efficiency in its stock configuration. But this isn't some Focus
rental car here, this is a Mustang with Richard Petty's legendary
name on it, so whatever's under the hood better be powerful,
regardless of displacement. If someone would've told me 10-15 years
ago that a tiny 2.3L 4-cylinder could be calibrated to output 700+
horsepower, I would've laughed them off as crazy. But lo and
behold, the addition of a Precision Turbo 62mm snail with an
upgraded turbocharger kit and a custom Petty's Garage calibration
brings the little 4-banger to life with enough power to compete
with all the big boys on the road. Not only is the motor powerful,
it's incredibly dependable and fuel-efficient too, and can be
serviced by an Ford dealer across the world. A Petty-built
high-performance 6-speed automatic transmission sits behind the
engine and shifts smoothly, while Ridetech fully adjustable front
and rear coilovers, Ford Performance axles, Petty's Garage front
and rear swaybars, and Petty's Garage upgraded polyurethane cradle
bushings are just a small sample of the long list of options the
sport suspension shows off underneath. The soundtrack is amazing
thanks to a custom center-exit Magnaflow exhaust that sounds
terrific up and down the throttle. A Brembo Gran Turismo Big Brake
upgrade includes power 4-wheel disc brakes with 6-piston front and
4-piston rear rotors that bring quick, low effort stops as this
ultra-powerful Pony smokes the asphalt on its set of 20-inch
Forgeline Carbon forged wheels outfitted with 275/35/20 front and
315/35/20 Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires.
