The W123 was and is the most successful Mercedes Benz ever sold,
selling 2.7 million units in eleven years from 1975-1986. The
reason for the success is a multitude of reasons beginning with the
absolute classic and attractive design and the most important
reason is for the durability, especially the diesel variants. These
cars are still a common sight being used in third world countries
being used as taxi cabs, exceeding 500,000 miles with only minor
mechanical issues along the way. This particular 240 D we are
pleased to present has traveled less than 160K miles which is
pretty rare. The interior is all original and shows average wear
but the seats are still in good condition. The moon roof operates
as it should. The A/C does not blow cold and cruise does not work
which is very common for these cars. The paint still has some nice
shine to it, however there appears to be some hail damage on the
trunk lid and top of the car as well as some other scratches and
door dings and such. All that being said and with the exception of
the patched floor board in the back passenger area the body,
underside and rockers are all in pretty good shape all things
considered. Most of these cars that get used all end up some body
rust here and there. This is a no frills 240 with manual windows
that can be used and driven as is or it would be a good candidate
for a veggie oil conversion. This 240 starts, runs and drives down
the road as good as any other 240 of this vintage. The glow plug
indicator light on the dash does not work but the glow plugs
themselves do as when the key gets turned over I just wait a few
seconds before starting. Tires and brakes are good as well.
