Vehicle Description
1939 FORD Deluxe COUPE C-849 Ford Motor Company introduced it's De
Luxe Ford line in 1938 as an upscale alternative to bridge the gap
between its base model (usually called Standard) and its luxury
Lincoln offerings. The De Luxe name was used intermittently before
and after this to specify an upscale trim, but the Deluxe Ford line
was differentiated as a separate marquee with separate styling and
pricing through 1940. During 1939, Ford had five lines of cars:
Ford, Deluxe Ford, Mercury, Lincoln and Zephyr, and Lincoln-Zephyr.
After the war, this was simplified to Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln.
The Deluxe Ford of 1938 features a more sloping hood and ornamental
heart-shaped grill. This look carried over to the 1939, as the
Deluxe Fords gained a sharp v-shaped grill with vertical bars.
