Vehicle Description
1978 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
Mention the name Corvette and immediately someone in the
conversation will perk up and pay attention. It's a timeless
American sports car and has gone through several personality
changes. From the 2-seat coupe when first introduced, to a fast
50's classic, to the Stingray Versions of the 1960's and early
1970's. By the 25th year, engineers were all but finished muddling
through the power struggle with emissions and the 25th anniversary
Corvette was born.
Happy 25th anniversary for this 1978 Corvette! And now it can be
yours as it is up for consignment and gracing our Hallowed Halls in
all its Classic White badged glory. A T topper, rear greenhouse
glass and a replacement 350ci engine and a stunning red interior
all to celebrate the iconic American Sports Car, the Corvette.
Due to varying emissions control devices being removed, please
check with your state, county, local or provincial motor vehicle
department to verify the ability to legally register this vehicle

Exterior
Fiberglass bathed in a Classic White paint is showing off nicely
with just minor checking and scratches on this 'Vette. However,
upon closer inspection we see blistering and bubbling of the paint,
particularly on the nose, hood and tops of the front fenders. No
chrome, just neoprene crash bumpers at the end of the long, long
hood. Hidden headlights, nicely curved front quarters with the
"cove", sleek styled doors with their inset top handle, the
greenhouse rear glass and rounded rear bumper which is integrated
and sports the round Corvette taillights can be seen and enjoyed
with your eyes. On the bottom, the rockers take on a black covering
highlighted by a thin stainless trim spear which fills the gap
between wheel well flares. 15-inch polished shiny wheels are on all
4 corners, and all wrapped with raised white letter BF Goodrich
radials.
Interior
High back buckets right out of 1978 and wrapped in a mix of red
cloth and leather make up the passenger and driver's seating. Light
age wear appears on the leather bolsters and the cloth inserts are
looking just great. This is fronted by a clean red dash with black
instrument panels in front of the driver and in the center of the
dash. A clean red rimmed leather wrapped steering wheel fronts this
dash. Door panels also use the red covering in stitched leather
along with ribbed red broadcloth. There is a lower red carpeting
panel at the bottom of each door giving a background to the armrest
and pull. The same dark gray carpeting floods the floors and is in
clean and good condition. Up top, a removable T top is installed
and opens the cockpit up to airflow. The rear storage area is also
covered in the red carpeting which has slight fading to its
presentation and a pair of aftermarket speakers have been added for
your auditory pleasure.
Drivetrain
Under the forward flipping hood is a 350ci V8 circa 1971. This mill
has had a recent tune up, oil change, and was treated to new belts
and hoses. Black valve covers with a red bowtie and Chevrolet logo
have been added for some eye candy and the original air cleaner
assembly remains. A rebuilt single 4-barrel carburetor is atop to
feed it fossils and a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission is on
the back with a 3.08 Positraction rear axle turning the rear tires.
Noted, a new AC compressor was recently installed as well.
Undercarriage
Very nicely preserved underneath with a smooth factory coating of
undercoating and no rust. Independent coil spring suspension is on
front and a fully independent rear suspension with transverse leaf
springs is in the rear. Power disc brakes show up on all 4 corners
and dual exhaust has been added with Flowmax by Flowmaster
mufflers. We do note that the catalytic converter has been removed
from the exhaust system. Our consignor states that a rear end
alignment was recently done along with the driveshaft U-joints
being replaced.
Drive-Ability
She fired right up and on the test track it performed beautifully.
Nice smooth acceleration, smooth shifting and good brakes. It
handles like it's on rails and the T top option is a nice feature
without having to fuss with a canvas mechanism. All functions were
working well during our test driving experience.
Happy motoring, carving corners, cruising, outside airflow to make
your hair blow around, being pushed back into your seat, these are
all qualities you can expect when seated inside this 1978 version
of the Corvette. Happy 25th anniversary!
