Vehicle Description
Two owners from new. Comprehensive mechanical rebuild by Steinel's
Autowerks. Beautiful Gulf Blue paint and black leather interior.
Upgraded 2.4-liter engine, 5-speed. Very well documented. A
beautiful long nose 911 that's fully sorted and ready to
enjoy.Purchased from the widow of the original owner in 2006, this
beautiful Porsche had been sitting for many years in a warehouse.
As part of the resurrection, it was taken to the Porsche experts at
Steinel's Autowerks in Twinsburg, Ohio for evaluation and
eventually, a full rebuild. The result is this beautiful Gulf Blue
911T that offers a myriad of upgrades and a classic look that's
100% Porsche performance. During the refit, a fiberglass deck lid
with 'ducktail' spoiler and an RS-style chin spoiler were added.
These work in conjunction with steel RS fender flares that were
installed under previous ownership and give the car an ideal
stance-not too radical but certainly aggressive. The original color
was brown, and it was with that in mind that the full color change
was ordered. The car was completely disassembled and thoroughly
repainted at a cost of nearly $20,000. The result is a beautiful
911 that has a period look wearing some of the most famous racing
colors of all. Finish quality is excellent and even after more than
15 years, it's holding up beautifully with only minor signs of
use-a chip on the hood the size of a pencil tip, a hairline crack
in the fiberglass deck lid where it was slammed a little too hard,
and a few touch-ups here and there. This is a car that was built to
be driven, so there are signs of that, but nothing that's visible
without very close inspection. The car is just beautiful in
person. The black interior is a great complement to the Gulf Blue
paint and features leather upholstery on the seats to make them
surprisingly comfortable. Porsche was all business in the 911's
design, and the business was going fast, so the big tach sits front
and center on the dash with auxiliary gauges to either side. All
the gauges are fully functional, including the clock, although the
odometer stopped working during our video shoot-there are a few
more miles than indicated, but not many (the odometer was reset to
0 when the restoration was done, so about 5000 miles on the engine
and transmission). The steering wheel is a Momo unit with a Porsche
horn button that looks right at home and it telegraphs the front
wheels' activities directly to your palms. There's also a later
Blaupunkt AM/FM/cassette stereo that was probably installed in the
'80s, but if you're worried about the radio you're not using this
car correctly. Carpets, seats, headliner, and dash pad are all in
excellent condition. There are even two smaller fold-down seats in
the back, although they're best reserved for children or used as
extra cargo space. The forward trunk is correctly finished and
includes the original space-saver spare underneath. The original
engine was completely rebuilt with the goal of making 190
horsepower. Displacement was bumped to 2.4 liters, a set of custom
JE pistons were installed to raise compression, and a complete 911E
fuel injection system with custom camshafts was installed. Detailed
receipts and dyno sheets confirm that they got very close to the
goal and today it runs and drives superbly. Thanks to the fuel
injection, it starts easily and idles well, even when cold, and
makes plenty of oil pressure at all speeds and temperatures. The
engine joyously revs to 6000 RPM and has a flat torque curve that
makes it very user friendly in the real world. It's fast but not
dangerous, and despite what you've heard about early 911s and their
treacherous handling, this car exhibits no such issues. It's
delightfully well balanced, content to commute to work or carve up
your favorite country road equally well. The 5-speed manual
transmission was rebuilt at the same time, so throws are crisp and
positive and ratios are well-chosen so the engine always feels like
it's on its toes. It stays cool on warm days and generally goes
about its business without a lot of fuss-exactly what you'd expect
from a premium sports car from Porsche. The undercarriage is
original, so it's not detailed for show, but there's no evidence of
rot and it has never been used in winter weather so everything's
solid. The suspension and brakes were rebuilt so it rides and
handles beautifully and stops with confidence and the exhaust has a
spectacular flat-6 tenor wail that gets more amazing the faster you
go. Replica Fuchs alloys are the right choice and carry staggered
15-inch BFGoodrich radials.Documentation is extensive, including
original owner's manuals, receipts on the restoration totaling more
than $50,000 (in 2006 dollars), photos from before, during, and
after the build, dyno sheets, alignment specs, and Porsche
Production Specification documentation has been ordered and will be
supplied with the car. This car has been part of our family for many
years and it has always been a favorite to drive. It's ideally
balanced, incredibly docile, yet incredibly fun to drive. It was
rebuilt and serviced by one of the most respected Porsche shops in
the area and has been maintained properly so it's ready to enjoy at
a moment's notice. That's really the great thing about the 911-it's
daily-driver capable, yet makes any drive a special occasion. One
drive will convince you that this one is special. Call
