Vehicle Description
The Land Cruiser is truly becoming the next great classic 4x4. But
even as they keep appreciating, few get the kind of restoration
that this 1978 Toyota FJ40 did. The full build has returned its
main factory specs and also given it a few subtle upgrades (like
air conditioning!) So you get a classic that still has the vintage
feeling, but really, it's better today than it ever was before.
This Land Cruiser turns back the clock. You can tell it has been
given a comprehensive restoration where the bright blue paint has a
terrific gloss to help highlight the rigid and straight body
creases. And while we love these for their robust appearance, this
one also has style. You see it in the way the white hardtop roof
with matching white grille gives this a touch of classic two-tone.
And take some time to look over all the details. The hood trim,
locking anchors, tow hooks, turn signals, and all the badging is
fresh and correct. It's impressive everywhere, from the clean glass
to the factory wheel covers. But one theme you will see throughout
this one is the look and feel of progress. There are subtle
elements that take a keen eye to see, but they make a big
difference. For example, this has the classic FJ stance, but the
tires trade the classic skinny units for modern all-terrain tires.
And the headlights are LEDs that light the way forward better.
The robust interior is part of the FJ's bulletproof attitude, but
it still takes a watchful eye to get it to this level. The bright
blue on the dash and doors look great with the bright metal trim.
Even the shifting instructions for the 4x4 are still bolted to the
glove box lid! Those double doors swing wide in the rear to allow
easy access to the classic side-mounted jump seats or fold them up
to swallow plenty of cargo. Like the exterior, you'll also find the
right upgrades for a better driver. The front seats are now
high-back buckets with wide headrests and plenty of bolstering. You
still get the classic FJ feel with the thin steering wheel and the
tall gearstick. But your gauges are a full new crisp package. And
there's cold air conditioning to make sure you never break a sweat
on the street or trail.
Toyota's trusty and torque-filled 4.2-liter inline-six is the
backbone of the Land Cruiser's tough-as-nails reputation. Like the
rest of this vehicle, the motor looks like there have been some
nice investments while also remaining period-correct. This attitude
is reinforced when you feel it fire up easily and idle smoothly.
The four-speed manual transmission gives you full control over this
go-anywhere machine, and the four-wheel drive system will remind
you why this was the choice for so many explorers. There are even
useful updates like front disc brakes and dual fuel tanks.
This FJ40 is pure nostalgia. That means it still delivers all the
classic feeling that made you love this 4x4, and they even gave it
the right modern touches so that the experience stays all smiles.
So if you want an exceptional classic, you need this Land Cruiser.
