enthusiasts talk about the street scene of the late 1960's and 70's
the Chevrolet Super Sport Chevelle is certainly one of the icons of
this era. In factory form big block Chevelles drove off the
showroom floor competitive street racers among the Pontiacs, Fords,
and Mopars. In the quest to dominate the streets enthusiasts
modified these cars to defend their favorite brands. Featured here
is an excellent example of the performance potential of the highly
capable Chevelle has when modified. This true Super Sport optioned
car has been professionally restored and modified with a frame off
restoration right down to the last nut and bolt, everything
removed, completely cleaned, restored/modified and reinstalled. The
black finish is well applied over professional bodywork that is
well executed. Body fit and lines are consistent and well aligned.
The finish has been polished to a rich luster that shines with a
deep brilliance. Grilles, trim, bumpers, trim and brightwork have
all been either restored or replaced with new pieces. Some light
detail work could have this car easily ready to be presented at a
high-level show. The underbody of this car continues the high level
of detail and workmanship underneath. The frame has been fully
detailed and reassembled with front and rear power disc brakes,
Detroit Speed suspension components in front and rear stabilizer
bars. The rear 12 bolt differential has been upgraded with HD
posi-traction center unit and Mosher axles. The fuel and brake
lines have all been replaced and the steering components have all
been either rebuilt or replaced with new units. The whole
combination rolls on 15 Rally steel wheels painted body color
wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires. Under the hood the
heartbeat of Chevrolet beats strong with this Dart 540 big block V8
topped with high flow AFR aluminum heads. The rotating assembly is
fully blueprinted and balanced and professionally assembled. Atop
the single plane aluminum high rise intake sits a Pro Systems
modified Holley carburetor that has been calibrated and tuned to
optimize the engine combination. The fuel mixture is lit with a MSD
ignition, and the exhaust flows through a set of large tube Hooker
exhaust headers. The engine compartment is well detailed with a
polished aluminum dual inlet snorkel and aluminum valve covers and
will show well at your next cruise in. You can hear the rumble of
the Comp Cams camshaft through Pypes 2.5 exhaust with X-pipe
flowing through Race-Pro mufflers. Not loud enough? If you need a
little extra growl this Chevelle has electric exhaust cut outs that
can be opened to divert the exhaust gasses before the mufflers to
full on open exhaust. The interior has been equally well restored
just requiring a few finishing touches. The cabin has been treated
to new rear upholstery, door cards, carpet and headliner. The front
factory bucket seats have been replaced with Pro-Car racing seats
and 5-point race harness seat belts. The transmission is shifted
with a Hurst pistol grip Quarter Stick Shifter and a Painless
Wiring switch panel activates the fuel pump, ignition and starter.
These have been skillfully mounted to the factory center console.
The dashboard has been upgraded with a carbon-fiber dash panel and
fitted with matching Auto-Meter Carbon Fiber gauges and a shift
light is mounted to the steering column. There is a saying in the
automotive hobby that most economical way to restore or build a car
is to buy one already done. This high-level build is proof o
