Vehicle Description
This 442 was restored several years ago by the consignor's father
and received a thorough mechanical restoration including the
engine, transmission and updated braking system with dual circuit
master cylinder and power front disc brakes, power drum rear
brakes. Cosmetic restoration included new paint, chrome and
interior with new upholstery, carpets, headliner and door panels.
The vehicle identification number ( the second through fifth number
is 4487) that it is a genuine 442 model. Options include the full
length center console with floor shifter and vinyl top.
Here are the consignor's comments: Here is what I know with the 442
on what my dad/uncle did: • installed new exhaust
• installed new hooker headers
• custom crazy plum purple paint job
• new leather back seat with matching purple tubing
• upgraded to disc brakes
• new optima battery (I put that in about 6 months ago)
• transmission gasket just replaced
• original engine but repaired to make it the way it is now
• 325 Hp, 400 torque, positraction rear wheels
That is what I can remember on the car. I know there was more work
done but it has escaped my memory bank.
This is what Wikipedia says about these special cars:
"The 4-4-2 became a separate model from 1968 through 1971.7 #fn7
The wheelbase was 112 in (2,845 mm), and over 33,000 were sold for
1968. Despite the engine displacement staying at 400 CID, the
engine was based on the new 455 V8's 4.25 stroke, with the bore
decreased (to 3.87). Torque came at 3000-3200 rpm as opposed to the
early 400's 3600 rpm peak"
