Vehicle Description
Lotus released the Esprit in 1976 and made numerous design and
mechanical updates to the model over the next 28 years. Peter
Stevens gave it a less angular exterior design in 1988, power
steering was made standard in 1994, and the 1997 model year brought
a twin-turbocharged V8 (the first in the Esprit's history) that was
designed in-house. Production ended in 2004, and only a small
handful were shipped to North America.
Power comes from a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8, rated at 350
horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque in stock form. Due to the
modifications performed to this Esprit, it may make more power, but
a dyno sheet was not provided to confirm. Mid-mounted, it spins the
rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transaxle.
