This 1937 LaSalle Series 50 Convertible Sedan spent considerable
time in the cherished hands of collectors and is 1 of only 530
produced. 1937 was a remarkable year for General Motors' most
prestigious luxury brands, Cadillac and LaSalle. At the top of
General Motors' hierarchy was Cadillac with its companion marque
LaSalle sitting just below, with the initial thought that LaSalle
would help bridge the gap between Buick and Cadillac. When the
economy went into the Depression, the number of people purchasing
brand new luxury cars also took a major hit and those who could
still afford a top-of-the-line automobile didn't necessarily want
to flaunt it given what was going on in the world at the time. This
is where LaSalle came in, a luxury car that was just slightly less
ostentatious than a Cadillac. With total sales of 32,005 cars
produced in 1937, LaSalle was carrying much of the load atop of GM
and help keep Cadillac afloat. In November 1936, LaSalle debuted
its '37 Model Year cars along with the introduction of a brand new
body style, the 5-Passenger 4-Door Convertible Sedan (Style Number
37-5049). These new Convertible Sedans we the priciest, most
prestigious, and rarest consumer cars produced by LaSalle in 1937.
The newly designed '37 LaSalles featured die-cast eggcrate-style
grilles, more pronounced hood louvers, larger front fenders and
repositioned bullet-style headlights, which gave the cars a lower
look. Today, the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) considers the
'37 LaSalle a "True Classic." Powering this particular LaSalle is a
322 Cubic Inch L-Head V8 engine paired with a single 2 barrel
carburetor, marking LaSalle's return to a Cadillac produced V8
after using an Oldsmobile Straight 8 in the previous 3 model years.
The 322 Flathead V8 is hooked up to a 3 speed manual transmission
that is shifted using the floor-mounted shifter. The beige cloth
convertible top is in wonderful condition and is outfitted with a
glass rear window. The exterior on this antique LaSalle Convertible
has been correctly refinished in beautiful Black paint. Riding on 4
wide whitewall bias-ply tires with full LaSalle wheel discs, this
pre-war 4 door Convertible has a truly classic look. Dual
side-mounted spare tires are incorporated in the front fenders as
well completing the elevated exterior look of the car. The interior
of this LaSalle Convertible is swanky! The front and rear bench
seats along with the door panels and armrests have been
reupholstered in beautiful red leather. Matching red carpeting is
carried throughout. The dash, "flexible" (banjo-style) steering
wheel, and interior upholstery all have a nice stock appearance.
The dash is equipped with a 110 MPH Speedometer, oil pressure
gauge, temperature gauge, Ammeter, gasoline gauge, AM radio and a
clock. Whether you're looking to buy your very first pre-war
classic car or you're a Cadillac-LaSalle aficionado, this 1937
LaSalle Series 50 Convertible Sedan would make an excellent choice.
