The second-generation Corvette has always been, and will likely
always be, the most desirable and collectable Corvette of all time.
It was truly an icon of 1960's car culture and has been
immortalized in song, art, and other mediums. Designed by the
legendary Larry Shinoda, the Stingray is sharp, modern, flashy 60's
perfection. It looked like it was from another planet with its
bulging fenders and super sleek shape, catching the attention of
everyone. It carved the way for every Corvette that followed, and
solidified Chevrolet's presence in the sports car market. From the
punchy little 327C.I. V8 to the massive 427C.I. big block, the C2
Corvette Stingray came with a wide variety of powertrain options.
One of the more unique options available from 1963 to 1965 only was
the 327C.I. V8 fitted with mechanical fuel injection.
Making an incredible 375hp from the small block engine, the L84
optioned Fuelie Corvette was a marvel of technology for its time
and offered a unique experience from its carbureted siblings. The
1965 model year marked the end of fuel injection for the Corvette
until the later Crossfire Injection of 1982 and then Tuned Port
Injection in 1985. The early fuel injected Corvettes didn't sell as
well as carbureted models due to its high price tag and the
specialized service it required. Only 771 Corvettes were fitted
with the option in its final year, and this is one of those very
special cars. Due to their complexity, many fuel injected Corvettes
of this era had their intakes swapped and then topped with a
carburetor, leaving many original fuel injection units lost to
time. But this example is all correct with matching numbers on the
engine, Muncie 4-speed transmission, and Rochester fuel injection
unit. The rear differential is date code correct and features a
3.36 final drive ratio with Positraction to help put the power to
the pavement.
This spectacular example comes with other sought-after options,
increasing its rarity and value. It's fitted with power 4-wheel
disc brakes, power windows, and rare telescoping steering wheel so
you can more easily find the perfect driving position in this
one-of-a-kind 'Vette. The interior sports its correct Saddle
leather upholstery, another rare and desirable option. The interior
also features a 6,500rpm redline tachometer, 160mph speedometer,
Delco AM-FM radio, color-matched seatbelts, 3-spoke steering wheel
with wood-look rim, a large, carpeted storage area behind the
seats, and that iconic Muncie shifter in the center. The exterior
is finished in gorgeous Milano Maroon, of which only 2,831 were
painted in that year, and is accented by glimmering chrome work and
desirable aluminum turbine wheels wrapped in Goodyear white line
tires. The underside of this Corvette is just as nice as the top
and shows its original bare fiberglass with not covered with paint
or undercoat.
This classic fuel-injected Stingray is ready to be the centerpiece
of any collection, and shut down any 413C.I. Super Stock Dodges it
may come across along the way.
