For Sale: 1940 Buick Special in DANVERS, Massachusetts

Vehicle Description

This 1940 Buick Special was put through a restoration that included an engine overhaul, fresh paint, and a new interior 16 years ago. It is powered by a 248ci inline-8 backed by a 3-speed manual transmission. Features include manual brakes, steering, and windows; a 6-volt electrical system, and driving lights. This black Buick with a tan cloth interior is available now and comes with a clear Massachusetts title.

The body of this Buick Special was refinished in black during a restoration carried out 16 years ago. Features include chrome bumpers, driving lights, a chrome grille, a 4-piece hood, dual chrome mirror caps, rear suicide doors, dual taillights, and rear amber turn signals. The seller states that there are small cosmetic scratches and dents, which are visible in the gallery to the right.

A set of black steel wheels with dog dish Buick hub caps and trim rings is wrapped in whitewall radial tires.

The interior was redone during the restoration process and comes furnished with front and rear bench seats upholstered in tan cloth. Features include tan cloth door panels and headliner; tan carpeting; faux wood finishes on the steel dashboard and window moldings; manual windows, steering, and brakes; a column-mounted manual shifter; and an AM radio. Cracks in the steering wheel are visible.

A 110-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and amperage are located in an engine-turned panel ahead of the driver. The seller notes that not all gauges are functional. The 5-digit mechanical odometer shows 74K miles, but the true mileage on the vehicle is unknown.

Power is provided by a 248ci inline 8 backed by a 3-speed manual transmission. Underhood features include dual horns, an offset single-barrel air cleaner, cast-iron intake and exhaust manifolds, a 6-volt battery with a cut-off switch, and a remote oil filter. The seller states the engine was overhauled during the restoration 16 years ago.

This Buick Special is factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by manual drums.
