The Grand Dad of Grand Touring Sports Cars is the SL by Mercedes
Benz. It always has been and always will be.....Translated meaning
Sport Light. The start of the SL was the mid-1950's and derived
from racing pedigree, the SL is still being built to this day.
Offering a removable hard-top over a soft convertible top. The
fourth generation built from 1989 through 2001 internally known as
the R129 was the first model to have a hydraulically-operated
folding roof at the touch of a button, the hydraulics also operated
the hard-top latches which took away from manually having to close
the pins....Now, there are plenty of these cars out there with out
working hydraulics as they were quite pricey to repair, however
this particular car has working hydraulics both for the hard-top
and convertible soft top. The soft top is in good shape, the
hard-top has some dings and scratches from being bounced around the
garage I am sure. It also has a loose headliner. There are no
warning lights on the dash, which is also quite remarkable
considering the mileage. Although the digital readout on the
climate control is a little tricky to read, the climate control
works very well with cold A/C. All the exterior lights work, power
seats and locks. This Benz has some good decent service records,
owners manual and one key. The interior is in fair shape, the paint
has some scratches, stone chips, swirl marks etc....The underside I
consider in pretty good shape for year and mileage, the tires are
good, battery is good and is quite literally priced to move. This
is in by no way a perfect car and the price reflects this, but is
also not a car you should overlook. These cars are still in my
opinion a very good looking European Muscle car that back in the
day was the meaning of class.
