Description:
This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette began life with a convertible body and
it underwent a Sportwagon conversion under previous ownership that
included the installation of a shooting-brake-style roof and
removable targa panel as well as rear fender flares, a high-rise
cowl-induction hood, and fixed headlights. The car has been
refinished in metallic maroon and is powered by a 572ci V8 mated to
a five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes manual
four-wheel disc brakes, a limited-slip differential, manual
steering, Keystone wheels, and side pipes. This modified C3
Corvette comes with records, parts literature, period publications,
a 1968 Corvette assembly manual, and a clean Arizona title.
The body was finished in metallic maroon subsequent to the
installation of a shooting-brake-style Sportwagon roof with a
removable targa panel as well as rear fender flares and a high-rise
cowl-induction hood. The pop-up headlight covers were shaved, and
dual fixed headlamps were installed below the chrome front bumper.
Additional features include front fender vents, push-button door
handles, chrome ribbed side-pipe covers, dual mirrors, a short
antenna, a chrome split rear bumper, and 572 badging.
Series 32 Keystone 15? wheels with two-piece composite steel rims
and aluminum centers are finished in chrome with black accents and
are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires measuring 245/60 up
front 295/50 at the rear. Braking is provided by manual four-wheel
discs.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 160-mph speedometer and a
7k-rpm tachometer while auxiliary gauges and a clock are positioned
in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 85k miles.
The General Motors ZZ572/720R 572ci V8 breathes through an aluminum
single-plane intake manifold topped by a 1,150-cfm Dominator
carburetor with an open-element air filter as well as cast-iron
exhaust manifolds flowing into a dual exhaust system with side
pipes. Spark is provided by an MSD 6AL-2 control box and
distributor with a Blaster coil. A rebuild of the engine in 2013
included the following:
-Balancing the crankshaft
-Resurfacing the cylinder heads (.006?)
-Manley H-beam rods with ARP cap screws
-Clevite main bearings
-Performance valve job
-Crane Cam valve springs and retainers
-Comp Cams locators
-Replacement valve seals
-Replacement valve-guide liner
-Replacement oil pump
-Replacement timing chain gears
-Replacement cylinder-head and intake-manifold gaskets
