Vehicle Description
This 1957 Studebaker Silver Hawk is nice sporty 50s classic and is
absolutely beautifully frame-off restored! Studebaker's brand new
Hawk line debuted in 1956 and was one of the last major projects
spearheaded by automotive design aficionado Raymond Loewy (who was
later brought back by Studebaker in hopes to reinvigorate the
fledgling marque to design the Avanti). In 1957, Studebaker slimmed
down its Hawk line, keeping only 2 models, the Sliver Hawk coupe
and the Golden Hawk supercharged hardtop. Perhaps the most
significant design changes to the '57 Hawks materialized in the
new-look rear quarter panels which had iconic rear tailfins,
similar to many other American marques that year. Touted in
Studebaker's marketing materials as "The Sports Car Your Budget
Won't Believe," the Silver Hawks were stylish and sporty, yet
practical and affordable. The Silver Hawks which were limited to
pillared-coupes were equipped with 289 Studebaker V8s in the United
States (with the Canadien versions being sold with 259 V8s). For
their price, the Hawks had great performance without sacrificing
driver and passenger comfort. This particular example spent nearly
30 years in New Mexico and Arizona prior to the frame-off
restoration undertaken and completed by the most recent owner.
Powering this Silver Hawk is a "Sweepstakes" 289 Cubic Inch V8
paired with a single 2 barrel carburetor that pushed out 210
horsepower in its day. The Studebaker 289 V8 is backed by a 3 speed
manual transmission with overdrive that is shifted using a
"three-on-the-tree" column-mounted shifter. Exhaust exits the
engine through a dual exhaust setup that gives this Studebaker a
nice throaty sound. Riding on wide whitewall radial tires on red
painted steel rims with full wheel covers, this '57 Hawk has a
great look and even better ride. The chrome and brightwork around
the exterior of this Silver Hawk are in fantastic condition. The
exterior has been beautifully refinished in Apache Red and Arctic
White, giving the car an eye-catching appearance. Similarly, the
interior on this Studebaker looks great! The front and rear bench
seats have been reupholstered in two-tone red and white vinyl,
matching the exterior color scheme of the car. The dash, door
panels and steering wheel all appear to be in their stock
configuration and are in wonderful shape. The dash is equipped with
a 120 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, amp gauge, oil pressure
gauge, fuel gauge, and clock, as well as a push button AM radio.
Whether you're looking to purchase your very first classic car or
you're adding to your existing collection, this 1957 Studebaker
Silver Hawk would make an excellent choice. Give us a call
