If you know these Tundras, then you know this generation didn't get
a regular cab with a short bed (RCSB). So this custom-built 2002
Toyota Tundra 4x4 shows you what it all could have been about. With
V8 power, a lifted stance, off-road suspension components, and an
overall awesome style, this delivers a SEMA-level build.
Making a custom pickup takes planning. Underneath it means a custom
wheelbase on a shortened frame. And on the outside, it means
there's an opportunity for custom pieces that make for a
one-of-a-kind machine. There are nice details, like the custom
grille, hood scoop, full bedliner, and a 12,000 lb Smittybilt
winch. The front and rear fenders are fiberglass units so they have
the flare and size to accommodate the big tires and suspension
travel. There are extra rugged features like the steel bumpers and
rock sliders and you won't find them anywhere else because they are
a custom fabrication. The total package has the level of quality
investment and fully finished style that look like the kind of
build you'd see if Toyota wanted to make a prerunner to show off at
SEMA. And since the odometer is believed to reflect the full actual
mileage, it highlights that this custom truck is far more useful
than just for show. One great place that highlights this attitude
is the paint. Cement Gray is a modern Toyota color, and it has a
terrific look of a quality application. It's nice and glossy for
driving through downtown, and it's not going to show dirt when it's
time to have some fun. So yes this is ideal for work and play.
The interior keeps the useful attitude from the long tradition of
single-cab Toyota pickups. After all, they seemed to be the ones to
master the bench seat that still had good individual contouring.
There's even a fold-down armrest when the jump seat isn't in use.
And if you love the work-ready feel of the classic pickups of the
1970s, 80s, and 90s, this one keeps that same vibe. But this also
makes sure tradition doesn't stand in the way of comfort and
safety. So you have cold-blowing air conditioning, tinted windows,
sliding rear glass, dual airbags, a tilt steering column, and a
Kenwood infotainment system with stereo, Bluetooth, CarPlay, and
Kicker subwoofer.
The 4.7-liter fuel-injected V8 under the hood is a terrific motor
to have. It was shared with the contemporary Land Cruiser, and so
they were made to be robust. The four-speed automatic transmission,
power steering, and four-wheel power disc brakes are part of what
you want for anytime driving. But we really know it's the 4x4
prowess that has your attention. The front axle includes RCV
Chromoly shafts, a Diamond Axle housing, and a parallel four-link
setup with bracer bar. The rear axle is borrowed from a 2nd gen
Tundra and includes a 10.5-inch third member. The tall stance has
plenty of travel with 12-inch Fox shocks in front and Bilsteins in
the rear. And those ProComp 18-inch wheels look especially mean
with the Nitto Ridge Grappler tires mounted on them. It's all
running 4.88 gears to take advantage of the V8's low-end torque.
And while lifted trucks tend to be an off-road-only affair, this
has a well-crafted overall feeling that's also easy to enjoy on the
blacktop.
Custom creations are rarely both attractive and useful. So if you
want to be powerful, capable, and absolutely unique, call
