Vehicle Description
1957 Porsche 356A T1 Speedster
• VIN 82634
• Completed on October 5, 1956
• One of 948 Speedsters produced in 1956
The 733rd Speedster was produced in late 1956 and was originally
delivered from the factory in Ivory (704) with a Red leatherette
upholstery. Options from the factory include hub caps, antenna,
coupe seats, and sealed beam headlights.
According to the current owner this Speedster was purchased from
the original owner who was a US serviceman stationed in Germany.
The Speedster was brought back to the United States where it was
stored in a warehouse for the next 42 years. VIN 82634 was
subjected to a no-expense-spared Concours restoration over a 3-year
period. From 2007-2009, the body, suspension, wheels, seats, and
bumpers were all media blasted. The body was primed, sealed,
prepped, and painted. The gauges were sent out to North Hollywood
Speedometer to be restored.
Over a 10-month period, from 2009-2010, European Collectibles was
commissioned to complete the assembly of the Speedster. The
undercarriage was completely detailed, the suspension was
installed, and a upgraded ZF steering box was installed. The engine
was fully serviced and detailed, a new wiring harness was
installed, and the braking system was completely rebuilt. A
completely new interior was installed with correct materials and
oatmeal German square weave carpets. While only using OEM parts,
all mechanical components including the drum braking system and
electrical components were completely rebuilt, installed, and
sorted. All new rubbers were installed. The bumpers were pre-fit to
the body and painted, along with the windshield frame, and a soft
top to ensure the absolute best fit. All the chrome was triple
plated and all of the components were restored or replaced.
Although the restoration was completed nearly a decade ago it still
presents beautifully with no imperfections, excellent gaps, and pan
fit. The Red upholstery is in pristine condition, the Speedster
seats have white piping with a Black canvas boot cover and soft
top. The dash contrasts beautifully against VDO instrumentation and
a wooden steering wheel. The painted wheels are 4.5" x 15" with
Super hubcaps and Michelin XZX 165 HR 15 tires. The undercarriage
is in immaculate condition.
Mechanically powered by a period-correct performance 1600cc
flat-four engine (type 616/36 case) with 1740cc pistons and
cylinders, all correct linkage, fuel pump, voltage regulator, fan
shroud, and rare set of duel Super Solex 40 PICB Carburetors. This
Speedster runs phenomenal and is paired to a 644 transmission with
Limited Slip Differential and a four wheels drum braking system.
Complete with spare wheel, tool kit, side curtains, boot cover,
with some history and receipts of the restoration. An excellent
opportunity to acquire a beautifully restored 356 Speedster that
has great performance and is in perfect cosmetic condition.
