For Sale: 1964 Ford Thunderbird in Newberg, Oregon

Vehicle Description

20,800 MILE UNRESTORED ORIGINAL.

Located near PORTLAND, OREGON.

This Thunderbird was built on November 14, 1963 at the Wixom, Michigan Ford plant. VIN# 4Y85Z119994.

Sold new to a lady doctor in Astoria, Oregon, she used the car sparingly, keeping it for the next 23 years until 1987 when it was sold to a collector in Cornelius, Oregon. As a low-mileage original, the car became part of a private museum, "Papa's Toys" that held 180 cars with vintages from 1922 to 1982; one of the largest collections in the Pacific Northwest. Following the passing of the second owner in 2006, the family kept the car as part of the museum until 2018, when it was purchased by the current owner, with just 17,000 miles on the odometer.

Over the next four years the current owner performed maintenance including replacing the original 1963 tires, installing a new exhaust and new starter, along with new belts, hoses, fluids, rebuilt carburetor, and full tune-up. He has driven the car on several extended tours, and locally, proving its reliability and adding about 3,000 miles to the odometer, which now totals just over 20,800 miles.

Today, this Thunderbird shows beautifully. Finished in paint code "B" - "Pagoda Green" (a deep turquoise color) with a deep shine. Some areas of previous touch-up noted but virtually unnoticeable. Rust-free. Excellent panel fit as you would expect from a low-mileage original. Chrome and trim are excellent. Original beautiful black interior. Interior chrome and trim are also excellent. Door sill plates, Accelerator and brake pedals show virtually no wear. All gauges work with exception of the gas gauge and clock. Upgraded stereo cassette by the previous owner. All lights work, including the interior door marker/courtesy lights. Heater/defroster works. Original power top presents nicely and works well. Original trunk liner. Manual windows operate easily, all with excellent original glass. Excellent original windshield. Kelsey-Hayes real wire wheels with bright chrome and no pitting. Wrapped by newer radial tires. Comes with accessory fender skirts. Clean, original undercarriage.

PLEASE SEE PHOTOS WHICH WERE JUST TAKEN FOR THIS LISTING AND SHOW CURRENT CONDITION.

Mechanically excellent. Original 390 cubic inch, 300 horsepower V8 runs smooth and strong. No smoke or issues. Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission shifts smoothly, mated to a 3.00:1 differential makes this a superb highway car. A real pleasure to drive. Runs cool, accelerates smoothly and is FAST. Under the hood is beautiful and again largely original, with the only additions being an auxiliary coolant tank and Optima battery with onboard trickle charger. Again, this car has recently been driven 3,000 miles by the current owner, including several extended tours, so it is ready for the road ahead.

PLEASE SEE VIDEO OF ENGINE RUNNING.
