Here is a rare Mustang. Note to be confused with a ‘regular’ Roush 427R, this is one of 100 Trak-Pak editions built in 2008. The car absolutely lives up to its name; plain and simple, it is like driving a race car on the street.
Roush introduced the 427R model in 2007 as their premier performance Mustang. To take it a step further, the Trak-Pak option was introduced in 2008. Note this was the only year for the Trak-Pak and only 100 were built. This car is number 68 of the series and one of 14 in this color combination. It had an MSRP of almost $60,000 and has accumulated 46k miles since new.
Now this was a very expensive Mustang when new, but you definitely got something for your money. The Trak-Pak brought many upgrades to the already-capable 427R. The suspension was completely revamped to handle any road course. The new package includes adjustable front and rear shocks, front and rear springs, front and rear stabilization bars, front and rear jounce bumpers and adjustable camber/caster plates. The brakes are upgraded with 6-piston calipers over 14-inch rotors with cooling ducts in front. The engine cooling system is improved with a high flow front grille and radiator cooling shields. Chassis stiffness is enhanced with a strut tower brace, while this one also has an aftermarket K-member brace from CHE Performance.
There are a number of exterior items as well. The hood features a simulated scoop along with functional hood pins. The charcoal wheels are special 18” forged pieces from Roush and wear Toyo performance tires. And then you have that impressive wing. It is not a gimmick; it is a functional and fully adjustable carbon fiber setup. This car has more than enough speed to put it to full use! Note the wing was an option on the Trak-Pak; not every car has one.
Other cosmetic features include special Trak-Pak graphics and a unique 3-piece aero kit. The Mustang interior is upgraded with a 3-gauge dash pod (oil temp, water temp, and boost). Also included is a factory shift light (programmable), short-throw shifter, aluminum pedals, and a fire extinguisher. This car also has the special two-tone leather signature seats.
The supercharged engine is rated at 435 hp from Roush. It has tremendous torque at low rpm, making it feel even more powerful. And if you’ve never experienced blower whine then be prepared for one of the most intoxicating engine sounds you will ever hear. The 5-speed transmission runs through the gears with ease, while the rear end houses a Detroit Trutrac differential with 3.55 gears.
Note this Roush also has a few additional modifications. The windows have been tinted and there is a carbon fiber rear panel. A roll bar has been installed in back (this can be removed if interested). There is also an LED brake light along with clear front side markers.
Today’s performance cars have diluted the driving experience through dual clutch transmissions, lane tracking, electric steering, brake by wire, and similar technology. That is NOT the case here. With its supercharged V8, conventional clutch pedal, and performance brakes and suspension it provides a rush of visceral sensations with the menacing look of an old school Mustang. Trak-Paks are not offered for sale very often; don’t miss your chance with this one.
